Ya, I know of Gmax, it is popular in the modding community because of how powerful and free it is.

And does G max have smoothing groups? I think that is would be fairly good if you smoothed it correctly.

Yeah, I could add that mesh smooth modifier. But, it looks cool the way it is now, heh heh. Like one of those 'spruce goose planes'.

It was rushed anyway. I made it quickly. Though the more time I spend on it the better and more detailed it would be.

Here is the ship smoothed.

come on guys, we already talked about this. ships aren't needed at the moment :)

but i think this is the poly count we should aim for. an optimized mesh(yours isn't *g*) with smoothing groups(i hope the engine will support some kind of smoothed shading) and some nice textures will look very good.

btw: aplying the smoothing groups is an art for itself, it's not only select all polys and aply 1 smoothing group to all of them..

utilae: if you are really going to create some ships for fo you should train painting textures, this is the hard part, not modelling.

Just practising. I have yet to learn textures.

Ha, an improved ship. It has more detail.

Ya, I wasn't talking about meshsmooth, I was talking about smoothing groups, it makes or breaks the model, IMO.

I only ever use meshsmooth if I am making an organic model or I apply it to small parts of a mesh, where meshsmooth doesn't perform well (I had to do it on the tiger class...)

Yeah. I saw something called Smooth. And it had smoothing groups. I might try mucking around with that. I thought meshsmooth was a little bit to easy. Though it shows how good GMax is for free. What is it that makes 3d Studio Max so much more expensive. It must have hundreds more features.
