Hi all,

We have a new graphics lead for FreeOrion - Miu. Thanks to Burndaddy for all the work he did in the initial stages of the project, and a welcome for Miu.

Be nice to him, and help him out where you can :)

Address all graphics team related questions to him.

Thanks
Tyreth.

Hi :)
I think it's appropriate for me to say something. It was surprised when I got asked for graph lead, it's a big honour and responsibility and I promise to do my best. I've been doing plans how to get things more organised here and I'll be posting much next week. My general quideline will be immersion and gameplay over eyecandy, but not forgetting it.

But few things for now:
About graphics team
- Im going to have quite open doors with it, once you've submitted work to requests/usable graphics in game, just note me and I'll add you to graph team. If graph-team member is inactive and hasn't submitted anything for 4 months, he gets removed from official team, but he'll get name to credits. Going to reset the graph-team list, so if anyone feels that he/she should be in team, just PM me. If any of old members (Akiralen, John Volition, Ivtrk, Pablof79, Subscream, Obiwan37) still reads the forum and wants to be in, message to me. Members of the graph team are expected to submit works frequently and most importantly, share workload on requests.
If it seems that at the moment there is very little to do, don't worry, I'll fix that :)

I'm going to do a rough schedule of graphics needed for each release so that we'll know what will be needed and when it's right time to start working on them. Specially I'm going to clear what is needed for 0.2 and it seems that 0.1 still will need some work. But more of these in few days.

I'm also planning to do some recruiting as at the moment we lack experienced artists. This might take place after the 0.1 release as it should attract more people here, but if the release get's delayed too long, I'll do recruiting in some 3d-graphic forums.

I'm very excited with this. Freeorion will be greatest 4x game ever and I'm certain with everyone of us doing their best, we'll have no problmes reaching that goal.

.Miu

Congrats, I hope you bring order to chaos. BTW, does this mean he doesn't have to do any work? :D

I would like to join(if it isn't already obvious.....) and I do have abit of experience, but am still learning.

I don't care if you list me in the credits or not. However, if I do see some request that I am capable of doing, or contributing something for... I will make a contribution. (Like I did for those really cool nebulas). However, my experience is with POV-ray only, and so, I can only do pre-rendered stuff... so I don't think I'll be contributing very much. But who knows?? We will see... :)

If you want to do pre-rendered stuff, the best thing to work on is probably pre-rendered planet views. I mean like the moo2 planet screen backgrounds for the various planet types (swamp, desert, etc.).

I thought we already sorta had that?? Anyhow... what are the planet types again? And how big a render do ya need for the background image anyway? And you want png format, yes? Also, do you want day shots, night shots, or both?

Take a look on general guidelines thread, that should answer your questions. Day shot's are good, and awesome sunrises/sunsets would rock as well.

Congradulations Miu :D

I would help but unfortunaly I have no artistic skill, talent, experience, knowlage, or inclinations so I had better stick to Brainstorming and leave the art to the artists
