at around turn 100, Zero Population v6557
why should anyone waste his effort playing against those?

That's not a lot of information to go on; the only thoughts that come to mind involve the species dying out while still with only 1 or two planets -- an organic species may have gotten really unlucky dealing with monsters bearing bioterminator weapons, or a Xeno species may have gotten unlucky with a concentration camp, or some combination of both factors.
There aren't any species in the standard content 'programmed to self-destruct'

Trith and Eaxaw both building CCs at around turn 80 and dying out of zero Pop
soon thereafter without external help obviously

I'm still seeing xenophobes with empty homeworlds fairly regularly, I had thought you were going to change their AI to never use CCs on their homeworld?

Hmm, I guess that slipped through the cracks; I just committed the change now.

Cool. And reading that python code, um, yeah, still way over my head, I may need to find a basic primer.
