Hi,

I'm having problems running FreeOrion 0.3.1 under Windows XP.

When I click on the icon, I get an error message telling me "Die Anwendung konnte nicht gestartet werden, weil MSVCP71.dll nicht gefunden werden konnte. Neuinstallation der Anwendung könnte das Problem beheben."

Loose translation: "The application could not be started because MSVCP71.dll could not be found. Reinstalling the application might solve this problem."
I tried reinstalling it, it did not solve the problem.

(MSVCP71.dll? That sounds like it might belong to MS Visual C++. I don't have that...)

I have msvcp71.dll in my C:\Windows\System32\ directory. You might try search for that file in \Windows\ (including subdirectories) before Googling.

Alternatively, make sure that \Windows\System32\ is in your path. Right click My Computer, go to properties, advanced tab, environment variables button at bottom. The bottom half is System variables, one of which should be "Path" and should have \Windows\System32\ in it:

I managed to get a copy of that file. I pulled it out of a freely downloadable voice SDK for Flight Simulator...

FreeOrion works for me now. This might still be a problem that needs to be addressed, though.

Could you put up a bug report on sourceforge?

if you can't put msvcp71.dll into the system directory, put it simply at the same path as the freeorion.exe is.

If any dll files are missing on your system, get them from a website like http://www.dll-files.com and place them into the Freeorion folder.
