It's obviously not going as fast as we could wish, (i want to play the finished game now!) but we have a small core group that's been consistently working on it for years.
I think we may be getting near the point that FreeOrion has enough pieces to be reasonable fun to play -- the point where we start picking up momentum, and more people star pitching in.
