Another newb problem

I have a computer player cornered to one planet, I have tons of troop, ships etc around the planet but it will not let me invade?

Hopefully this is just me being a dumb newb.

Either that planet has stealth technology that is preventing an invasion (solution: research better detection techs),
or if you are playing an older version, you ships might not have enough detection to invade (solution: send a scout to that system).

I'm not happy with how stealthy planets and invasions work, but that's how it is now.
