Hi,

Ive had so much fun trying to figure out how to get around problems in the compilation, its the first time ive tried this.

I have finally finished the compilation, but im now utterly stuck. when i try to start FreeOrion, it seems to start, but nothing happens. What to do to get the program to run? :/ And, what information do you need in order to help me :)

ps. tried the game on my windows pc, love the game! A real MOO game :) Well, will be after more features are implemented.

What do you mean, "seems to start?"
If you get to the galaxy set up but nothing happens after try setting up a galaxy with zero AIs. I that works you need to upgrade python.

By "it seems to start" i mean that in the terminal window the blinking cursor goes to the next line and just keeps blinking. Like when i start gedit through the terminal window. Nothing else then that happens though.

Did you run "freeorion", and not "freeoriond"? The later is the server, which should output some text about waiting for networking events if started directly, but maybe that doesn't work on Linux?

Look in ~/.freeorion for any .log files created when you tried to start the program. If present, please post them or their contents (zipped if necessary).

If no window pops up when you run "freeorion", but the program is actually running, I'd guess it's some sort of window manager problem...? Maybe a video driver issue?

Im starting the game with the ./freeorion command. I can get some text output with the -h command.

Hmm. Your log just stops after the registering resourcemanager for HighLevelGpuProgram line. Mine continues to various other registration lines. It looks like a problem with Ogre starting up, before any FreeOrion-specific stuff happens. Are you able to run other Ogre programs? I imagine there are some demos or somesuch that come with Ogre.

Regardless, I don't have much useful to suggest trying, other than suggesting again you look for video driver updates...
