Re: Linux still supported in 0.4.4?
Thank you for all the help, everyone!
I'm still having issues, but the problem is definitely my end now. The version of Linux Mint I am running is based on Ubuntu's Raring Ringtail, which is decidedly out of date. I've been procrastinating upgrading so this is likely going to push me into finally getting off my ass and doing it. So I'll be upgrading in the next week or so to the next long-term supported Mint, which is based on Ubuntu's TrustyTahr.
So likely I will have to wait until the official release rather than the release candidates. No big deal, it's worth the wait.

If there are any links to particular distributions' FreeOrion packages, particularly for v0.4.4, that I should add to the wiki main page or news post, let me know...

I could update the wiki and the download page, if you like. I would just need the necessary rights.Geoff the Medio wrote:If there are any links to particular distributions' FreeOrion packages, particularly for v0.4.4, that I should add to the wiki main page or news post, let me know...

I'd like to edit http://freeorion.org/index.php/Download but the wiki says:
You do not have permission to edit this page, for the following reason:

Some pages are protected. For those you can't edit, particularly if they're short, you could post the text on the forums (in a code tags) and I can copy it over.Apo wrote:I'd like to edit...
Re: Linux still supported in 0.4.4?
I have now created this page
http://freeorion.org/index.php/Talk:Linux
It explains in a nutshell how to install FreeOrion for Debian, Ubuntu und Arch Linux and building from source the Debian way. This page might be more suitable for "Download" but please feel free to move it to any other location.

Great!
nitpick -- for the Ubuntu installation you need "apt-get" not "apt"

If I provided any code, scripts or other content here, it's released under GPL 2.0 and CC-BY-SA 3.0
Re: Linux still supported in 0.4.4?
Yeah, finally, after more than 10 years you can simply use apt install instead of apt-get but you need apt version 1.0 at least. I guess it doesn't hurt to mention that for Ubuntu 14.04.Dilvish wrote:Great!

I love this game, and I just wanted to thank you all for supporting Debian based systems; it makes it very easy to get it up and running.
