Colour codes for empires

I've just downloaded the game (0.4.5) and it looks great, except for the colour coding of the empires.
Dark blue text on a black background is hard to read, and almost impossible on dark grey. Pink text on black is starting to make my eyes quiver.
From what I can see (please tell me if I'm wrong), there is no way of changing these colours. Is it possible to add an option to do this?

to remove (or add) colours you don't (or would) like.
