Hi there !
i played some games on normal mode (a few losses and 1 win)
just thought i would share what i ran into:
- the first time i conquered the cray home planet, i loaded troup pods on my cruisers (which turned out not to be too smart lolz) , thinking they would be dropping off the ground troups, conquer the planet and then be available for defense. i found out soon enough that most of the fleet was gone, and had to scramble a new fleet not to get my arse kicked by the other races:)
so it might be an idea to let people know in the tool tip for troup pods that this ship will vanish after offloading the troups
- buildings: i was building a lot of industry centers , thinking they would all add the bonus to the industrialized (i had two systems on industry focus), and then i found i wouldnt need that many (as long as the supply lines are connected)
- advanced industrial center: if you hover over the tooltip of the industrial center , there's no info about which advancement it is ? (considereing the tech that i researched) and what the bonus is that it is currently adding?
- focuses: it might be an idea to add some info (in either the tooltips or somewhere) where it's explained into detail what the effect of the focuses is. i had 2 planets, and when i put the home planet to 'growth', i looked at it's population, and as it was already full (at 20/20) and the change of population was 0.0, i thought it wouldnt have any effect at all. later on (very much later on) i found out that if i put the home world on growth, the other connected planet (that was very low on population), growth was slightly boosted (which helps it to get up and running faster, which would be very useful)
- industry total: if you hover over the industry total, you only see '84.4 industry total'. maybe it's an idea to give some more information along the lines of 'Sol 3: 24.4 (industrially focused planet') Chato gamma: 23.4, etc etc, Total 84.4)
- same in the production screen: cause sometimes there's disconnected supply lines and it's showing the ! mark that industry get's wasted, and i only have a rough idea which planet the industry gets wasted on? it woudl be nice know which planet is producing what
- stealth: i like the idea. but my second opponent was laenfa, and the first game (i didnt research radars or scanners soon enough), i found out i couldnt invade because of that (having my fleet hover over their homeworld), and it didnt say how much stealth was needed, and sure enough another npc with the tech captured the world before i could.
-it's unclear to me why sometimes the star lanes turned dual color (even tho there's no way the other npc witht hat colour was way out of range? (for example i was green, and a laenfa npc was purple) and sometimes i see my star lanes / supply lanes turn dual green / purple. (or maybe it's because of supply expansion?) but it's unclear how that works
- bombing: as i was hovering a fleet over the Laenfa home planet, it says 'bombed the planet so and so ', but what actually does get bombed? i didnt notice the change?

Yes, I think I vaguely recall making a similar mistake when I started.steve44 wrote:so it might be an idea to let people know in the tool tip for troup pods that this ship will vanish after offloading the troups
I've also had an idea abot adding detail there, though it was to use the same breakdowns as would be on the individual planets-- i.e. you see how much contribution you get empire-wide from your Industrial Center, etc.- industry total: if you hover over the industry total, you only see '84.4 industry total'. maybe it's an idea to give some more information along the lines of 'Sol 3: 24.4 (industrially focused planet') Chato gamma: 23.4, etc etc, Total 84.4)
If your screen is wide enough then the entries in the production list include locations. But as for determining where the industry is getting wasted -- the starlanes are made a complimentary color for any resource group where PP is getting wasted, so that's the primary way. If you're having trouble seeing that (can be tough in a big empire if the blocked resource group is small) then clicking on the wasted PP icon *should* bring you to a planet with wasted PP (but sometimes seems to act funny for me).- same in the production screen: cause sometimes there's disconnected supply lines and it's showing the ! mark that industry get's wasted, and i only have a rough idea which planet the industry gets wasted on? it woudl be nice know which planet is producing what
Sounds like you're talking about the PP wastage signal noted above.-it's unclear to me why sometimes the star lanes turned dual color
Any shields, defenses, and infrastructure got bombed. But now that there is a distinct bombardment mechanism at least partly implemented (for bioweapons) it could be that the message you refer to should get amended.as i was hovering a fleet over the Laenfa home planet, it says 'bombed the planet so and so ', but what actually does get bombed? i didnt notice the change?

Re: first few games, experiences and suggestions
that cleared up a lot thanks
Re: first few games, experiences and suggestions
by the way, what does it mean when a supply line is thicker? (all these fiber optic cables sticking out ?
Re: first few games, experiences and suggestions
I just revised the Pedia description for Supply to clarify this. It now reads:steve44 wrote:by the way, what does it mean when a supply line is thicker? (all these fiber optic cables sticking out ?
Code: Select all
Supply lines are shown by coloring star-lanes with an empire's color. Planets connected by supply lines can share physical resources -- production
created on one planet, can be used on any connected planet to build ships or structures. A set of systems with supply connections between them are
called a 'Resource Group'. Supply lines can also be used to refill the [[encyclopedia FUEL_TITLE]] supply of ships. A set of core supply starlanes for
an empire (the set of least-jump starlanes connecting the resource-producing systems of each Resource Group) will have greater thickness than the
non-core starlanes. If PP is currently being wasted within the Resource Group the outer bands of the core starlanes will be a contrasting color.
The supply meter on a planet represents the number of star-lanes supply can reach.

Re: first few games, experiences and suggestions
oh right, cool. so if a star lane is connecting 2 systems, it will be thicker, to signify that it's a starlane that is a connecting starlane of a resource group (group of planets where industry is shared and you can cross system build etc .
is there any difference btw if i ( where there's a 'ring' of planets) a short group of starlanes gets disconnected while a longer outer one is taking over? i wonder if that increased distance would slow the industry down ?
btw loving the game so far

Hello dilvish,
there's a typo line 9508 in GT_TROOP_POD_DESC : "invation", from your [r7954] commit.

Re: first few games, experiences and suggestions
i found it it's very important to go through the right lines of research as well, because in this game i was in (where i was doing pretty good, but i was trapped in the middle having to fend off 3 of them constantly)
i saw that the ships being thrown at me didnt have as high guns or armor (just zortrium and lasers), but because of the amount of external slots / internal slots (in the asteroid hull and large asteroid hulls), he had a big advantage,
so the next few games i will give hull research much more priority, cause if you can put in 3 lasers and 2 x zortrium armor + deflector shield + couple of fuel tanks, you will have a lot more fire power/ structure points then just robotic hull with 2x plasma guns 2x diamond armor and 1 fuel tank (that i had).
+ the biggest npc that was constantly harassing me had a +piloting bonus (so that may have been a factor)
