Hi, I've known about this project for a while, so happy to see that it's picking momentum. Strange, it only occured to me recently that I could join the programming effort, since I've always been itching to write games.
Here's a bit about myself...
I'm a 4th year Computer Engineering student at University of New South Wales. I know C and Java quite well in terms of theory but I don't have a lot of experience, hopefully I'll get them here! I plan to learn C++. I'm not trying to brag, but I'm confident that I will learn quickly. My specialties are Robotics and Operating Systems, and I'm quite familiar with Linux and CVS etc. I run a Debian box and host my church youth group's website (
www.cpccsf.org). Of course, I will be coding mainly in Linux.
While I'm mainly looking to do some serious coding, I'm also very happy to help maintain a set of updated documentation for things. When I get the code and start building, I will post a Programming start HOWTO, unless there is one already (I couldn't find such a thread so far, although there is something similar at
http://www.freeorion.org).
Also, I'd like to make a comment - the documentation should be centralised. At the moment, half of it is at
http://www.FO.org and the other half in the forums.
Admins - my SF login is iota-prime. Please add me to the developer's list, thanks!
