Yea thats the best i think of for construction, and ive thought about it a lot. :)

Test for learning icon:
Image

I made rought test from top point of view, using simplest filtering for scaling.
I dont feel like the brain will look good on its own, it just is too "messy". The first one is still, in my oppion, the best ive done so far for learning.

Perhaps i should do something similar to what i did for the construction icon, put something in the "background" and use the brain in the center. Problem is to what i should put there...

Looks pretty nice, thou i think you should have put little smaller images. :)

I like the last one best. Also the idea of putting it in an angle is great. Reminds me of Red Faction logo...

EDIT:

Little bit better... thanks for the idea! :)

Maybe electrode wires or a shining aurora as a symbolic affect of the power of the mind.

I like the last spanner construction icon, its better than mine.

I'm lazy, I always work on big images while doing WIP's. Small errors are often hidden when reducing. I often forget to reduce before posting the wip. Sorry. I know it can be annoying.

What Id like to do Mystiqq is produce a 3d version of your last Icon. It may be usefull for the interface somewhere and would produce a nice consitancy.
If you could produce a large version, say at least 1000x1000pix. Ishould be able to create an exact 3D version very quickly. Larger it is the smoother the object will be.
It could even animated once 3D, Like revolving with a matelic material.

Are you able to use vector format in anyway, since ive done that in illustrator. At least 3dsmax is be able to handle some form of vector->spline... Since its done in vector format, any scale is possible.

Im not sure, Vector formats are something ive never dabbled in.

Z brush is the target application which imports bmp, psd. jpg, tiff
But I have the latest Photoshop and an old installation of Illustrator 8.
While fluent in Pshop ,Illustrator ive never used much.

Wats the format, Photoshop should be able to handle it.

Mystiqq, for the brain one as an icon - it may look better if you reduce the amount of "brain matter" so that it doesn't look as full. Make it more simple in design. Otherwise looking good.

Construction icon EPS

Size is roughly 400KB. Photoshop is able to load this and you can choose the resolution for it. This one is little bit different than in here atm, but not much.

Thats pretty much what ive been trying to do, but in very small steps. Im thinking of either removing the "mess" of details and going for something little bit simpler. Problem probably will be that it doesnt look much like a brain without those details..

Looks a bit odd but something like that probably.

Heres probably useable image for testing ingame if needed. Its png with transparency.

Image

EDIT:
Also heres same compressed using superpng. Nothing amazing but its tad bit smaller than the original.

SuperPNG version

Link to the official site of superpng, also i posted about it in this thread

If you are watching this in IE, the transparency wont work, but in Firefox its fine.

Ended up having to construct modal in Wings with pict as a template.
Strange Glowing metal ZBrush material.

3 versions. Notice difference in bottom of spanner, one curved ,one strait as original.
I favour the middle one.

Must sleep.

Nice. I thought about that curvature on the spanner. might be better to include the same curvature as the gear... like you have done.

Hey, if the icons were all 3d - could we not eventually have 3d spinning icons? It would make things interesting to look at, that's for sure :)

nice work to the icon group

Obiwan I like the last spanner and cog images, they look sweet, though pitty our icons will be too small to look that good.

I think the spanner and cog icons are pretty good for construction.

Some ideas:
Production
-Cog with lighting bolt in the middle (speed and production have a lot in common)

Construction
-Something representing builing higher and higher.

We could have the 3D colourful spinning icon when you mouseover / select / highlight / whatever the button / icon in question, and a flat grey or faded one that doesn't move when not highlighted.
