More chrome and the O reads much better.

Yeah, i like the new version. Too bad it's not on the splash screen.

I also think that "O" would be a better basis for the icon, at least in Os X where icons can be 128x128.

It will be on the splash for v0.4.

That's cool! While you are at this, could you perhaps create icons for the executables too? Dimensions should be 16x16, 32x32 and 64x64 AFAIR.

and Os X icons: 128x128 :)

Sure. But it would be easier if you could provide a version of the logo on a transparent background rather than black.

OK, done. I'm not sure i shouldn't have put more dropshadow behind it, but for now, i'm sick of looking at it. I saved it out in all the icon formats my icon maker had. I can't gurantee that the windows version works, since i have no way to preview, but it certainly looks nicer on Os X.

I'm assuming that there is enough data here that *nix style icons can be easily made via copy and paste, but i don't know anything about those icon formats.

here they are.

Why have you provided 48x48 icons for XP? Normally they're shown at 32x32 or 16x16 (in my experience anyway...), and they don't look very good when resized by XP (over white):

The original (above top right over black) does look pretty good though. Thanks for working on this; the current non-transparent icons are particularly non-professional-looking.

There are 32x32 and 16x16 sized graphics (at various bit levels) in the files i provided. I used the app to export to windows icon formats. like i said i can't verify how well it worked.

the old Linux icon format is .xpm but now .png and .svg are commonly used

There are 32x32 and 16x16 sized graphics (at various bit levels) in the files i provided.

I just loaded the file in paint, which I guess shows only the largest sized icon in the file...

[Edit...]I loaded the icon into MSVC, which lets me see all the different icons in the file. The apparance of the icons on the start menu or desktop doesn't seem to match the correspnoding size in the file, so I'm guessing it's just the 48x48 instead of using the 32x32 or 16x16, for some reason...

Also, right_click->Properties on FO-icon-XP.ico only shows info about the 48x48x32bit image, with no mention of the others. Maybe this is just me though...?

However, regardless, your icons are good, but don't really match the standard XP style, which is fairly blurred. For example, here are some blown-up 16x16 icons that came with or that fit the XP style (except two, arguably three, of them):

I guess my icon app does a bad job of creating Windows icons. The icons Geoff is seeing are the low-color, 1-bit transparency versions which shouldn't show up most of the time

When i get a chance I'll provide transparent PNGs, at various sizes, and let other people assemble them into icons for their systems.

OK, i've created full color, multi-level transparency PNGs of the icon at 128, 64, 32, and 16 pix square. Each file has been hand-tweaked for better clarity, please don't just take the 128-size and shrink it to a smaller size.

get them here.
Here's what you're missing if your OS doesn't support 128x128 icons:

I should have mentioned that the previously posted download also contains a higher-res PSD of the logo.

Thanks for this - it's looking great. The bottom one is going to be the new wiki logo :)
