Cool to see this race being developed =)

Also will be cool to see how the Eaxaw goes.

Oh man I've gone through a lot of ideas. I never liked any one of em' except for the first one in this thread came closest, but now even that one bothers me.

Here's what I changed:
Got rid of the hard bubble shapes: replaced with actual ship pods.
Made the design far more robust than before.
Dozens more variations on the models.
Made the ships look more conjoined, not entirely fused together, like they are traveling in a herd.
The symmetry. (I changed it to asymmetry ;) )

I kind of think of these as flying kumquats or sweet potatoes for some reason. I want to say "orange" and I don't know why. Maybe as a ship color?

Here's what I need to do:
Greeble. Nurnies. Wiggets.
Maybe showcase a single model.
Theoretically, The same style could be made to apply set of spherical Gyisache ships as well. I can see it right now in my head. Anybody think it would be a bad idea to have a nod to star control?

I know your not all artists or may not even have an even remotely artistic bent, but if you could spare some feedback or criticism, I'll take it in stride, I promise.

It sounds good, and I'm pro nods to star-control, but I can't really comment without pictures.

[edit]ah. pics are on the previous page. I think they work quite well.

I like where this is going. it fits the race very well. My favorites are probably the most asymmetric designs and the space croissants(the empty space in the middle is a nice touch).

It's quite obvious now, that this goes in a different direction than what I've done in my dev blog thread(which I will continue working on this weekend). I think we'll have to find a new race for these kind of ships.

Sounds like you tried to open a .psd with file writting by a new version using an older version.

Trying to rustle up some free time to do something for freeorion, I have some roughs for the circular version of Gyisache ships. A Nod to the Spathi from star control, they were a heavy source of inspiration for me, as were Pierson's puppeteers.

I think the problem I was having was symmetry. They somehow look cooler without it.

I made some of the pods different too, while I was at it. They just look different, I haven't assigned any particular meaning to them.

This new concept is my favourite. Very nice!

Brilliant, I love how the Gyisache physiology is mirrored in those designs. By far the best so far. It will be fun to model those guys. Thanks! :)

Sweeeeet!

What I would like to know is what the size of the ships are.

The sizes? You mean in terms of small, medium, large and huge? I really couldn't say. It's really up to the design team how big the ships are in game and these particular concepts don't describe ships in terms of size very well. However big they appear on paper is roughly how big they are in comparison to each other and ships with smaller details are also generally bigger.

Here's what I was thinking of when I made these last few pod ships :

Spathi Eluders (in homage)
Strong asymmetry
Longer curvier cables than before
Combining unique or slightly different bulbs with each other
Crop Circles
Plants/Leaves

Making ships mimic alien physiology is just a coincidence, I never really planned to make them resemble Gyisache physiology, it just turned up that way.

edit:

Also, these ships are a top-down view as well (@ Tortanick).

Interesting, thanks for sharing your though process.

Size doesn't matter much, because ships won't be shown at realistic scale in combat anyway. All that counts is relative size compared to each other.

Great Stuff !!!

The Gyisache ships look excellent. They are much better without symmetry.

Ship Size Example

#44 Post by Josh »

Gyisache Ship sizes. Tentative.

Image

Yeah yeah, I'm ghetto, I drew it in pencil.

My ultimate goal as a Freeorion Emperor? To build massive death stars, that is my goal. If I get ship sizes, I want one that at least looks like it comes in mobile battle station flavor. Yep, I have priorities.

Looking good. I'm a bit worried about the tiny parts, that are not located on main surfaces, but we can always simplify them I guess :)

Yay for pencil!
