I have just made the mesh for a ship design that FO could use if you want. I also have some drawings of similar designs, of many different sizes.

I have pics, but the textures are just stand in, standard sample from 3d studio max 5. I am going to be learning mapping by the end of the year, so I could have good ones my then. They will be on my site.

If you are full on modellers, I am still good at making ship designs.

I just fixed that. In an attempt to make a cool name, i put spaces and capitals, something geocities can't handle.

They work now though.

Capitols probably are supported.
Spaces won't be. Use undercores ( _ ) instead of them.

Any comments about the ship design? Any at all?

hmm, that's what this thread is for. :)

The ship looks very similar to the stealth bomber in Stars!
But then noting the number of space ships that have ever been designed, i can how most space-ships look like already done ones.

Ok, constructive critcism from point of putting it to 2003-standard game, not meaning to put you down or anything..

Generally very nice desing consept. Very traditionally spaceshippish. And I cant find any mistakes. I like the big engines and connection bridges, and the big flat wings make them look stealthy.

But it lacks details. The models look bare.. could do for a placeholder, but not for a final product. Wing would need more bump, details, connectors, edges are too boxed. Maybe more windows, gun-turrets, communication-links/antenna, shiled generators, whatever, but as they are, they are too plain in my view. Specially when the current texture gives out picture of way more detail and it doesnt have any bumpmapping on it. As they are, they would have been great in a game released around 97, but I believe our engine (when and if) can handle more polygons.

miu, it also depends on what the model is being used for. If it's for animations or full screen renderings, then it could probably do with more details as you suggest. But if it's for smaller images, or for the actual in game 3D models, then it's less important to put on details that won't be seen and unecessarily slow down the game.

I like the designs, they look like birds, almost like the romulan bird of prey. And the second one is cool how it is slightly different, but has the same style and shape.

Tyreth: true. I was mainly looking it from cut-scene/ detailed ship window -perspective, for smaller pictures and maybe for real-time 3d-shoot they'll work well :) Sorry about sounding too harsh.

Anyway, I thought I'll post some concept sketches I did recently. I was going to work on those fleeticons but things got bit out of hand and they didnt come out as anything usable (since I dint finish them, just sketching), but I think they might be usable in later stages when we model some ships, and I thought you might want to see them anyway :)
so here goes: http://miutemp.1colony.com/photo.html
Our schools ftp-server was down so I put them on some free-webspace server, ad's ahead.

Few different sized ships for a human like race with +20% in space- defence, as they are very heavily armored. The colonyship and the littleship above it sucks, but I'm quite happy with rest of them. Some anime-like themes can be noticed. I prefer criticism that points what's wrong/what people dislike rather than sayin it's nice (well, some amount of that is welcome now and then;) ), so fire away if those bring anything to mind.

Back to the drawing board with those fleeticons again..

miu: It is ok miu, I know I don't have cut scene skill, yet. I am taking a class in school. I should be better by december though. I mean, I can't even make and apply my own textures yet!

utilae: I also have about 7 others that look like the same, and one fighter that looks different. I have the wing of that fighter modelled out pretty nicely.

Anyways, I planed on make/spicing up the models anyways, FO could use them if they want. As far as I can tell, ships and combat design is far off, so I have alittle while to make them if you do want them. I am posting the wing off the fighter on the site.

PS I also made an animation with the first ship, it preforms pretty good for a minute and a half rendering.

Yes nice job miu, I think the only problem is their a bit hard to tell apart, probly because they are so different from what we consider a spaceship to normaly look like, which is a good thing. They have an Anima/Homeworld look too them that I like along with the continuity of overall design, you definatly get the feeling its 1 race.

I also dont get much sense of scale from them, without the labels I woulndnt be able to realy get any idea which ship is large or small. The second much larger picture though dose have give me a sense of smallness because of the large missle racks.

Also I am wondering why the Engines are so hidden? Engines are usualy rather promonent on space ships, is it intentional? They remind me of Tie Fighters in that respect. Are they using some novel propultions system like gravity waves which dose not have an eternal nozel?

Another new design, I just made the cutter mesh.
But, I have everything my others have, but at that size the rool bar is going to be puny ass. I'll post pics soon and u can decide. I am also updating my others to be not so bad boxy, but keep the designed boxiness.
