Everytime I attempt to open Freeorion a black screen will show up then close again while showing this message in the command prompt thingy.



This problem appears for both version 0.3.14 and 0.3.15.

There's something weird going on with the file pathes there, given the W with a slash through it. I've never seen that before and don't know whether it's part of the problem.

However what is a problem is that it's trying to find resources in the wrong place: Your window title bar says it's running in G:\FreeOrion (v0.3.15)\Freeorion\ but the exception lists F:WFreeOrionWdefaultWDejaVuSants.ttf

Assuming the W-slash things are supposed to be backslashes, it still appears you've got an old config.xml telling the game to look in the wrong place for data files from where you're running it. Try deleting your config.xml and trying again.

Running from the command-line (cmd.exe) if available would make it easier to see any error messages without the window disappearing.

Deleting the File made the game work but now I've run into the incessant problem of the firewall which prevents me from playing a game (main menu still shows up). I don't have administrator privleges to unblock anything so I'm wondering if there is any other workaround to that.

Not that I'm aware of. Maybe try to convince whoever admins the firewall that localhost on ports 12345 and 12346 is not the internet?

I probably won't be able to convince the admin and this has prevented me from playing the game on most computers. This is the only other real problem I've had before.
