FreeOrion is using two different, but both free (as in freedom), licenses for code and content.

The sourcecode and game-content scripts are released under the terms of the GNU GPL 2.0.

All artwork, music and sounds, and in-game text are released under the the Creative Commons Attribution - Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 licence.
