Within the framework of computer science, in particular computer programming, certain terms apply that constitute shared or common definitions found in other fields or social settings. Source is one such word.

The term source defines or characterizes the various related aspects of the computer field. It may refer to source code, source engine, source text, source files, source directories and even source devices. Also, dependent on its use, source might have a more generic application, when referencing data transfer. In that case, source refers to the original location or place where data is sent from. Source, as used by this site, refers to the Freeorion non-compiled computer programming code.
