New team member need help for setup
Hi guys, Joined the team recently to give a hand in the AI coding. I need help for the initial setup. What tools and what version are we using? I went to the tools page and there's a lot of tools available there, are we really using all this? Also, I have the following questions: 1) I read the specs...

On a different note on shipyards: In most 4X games, shipyard are a component of your planet. It’s just another “module” that you build on the planet like research lab, scanner, farm, etc… In order to be efficient, you usually build the shipyard on a planet that has good industry. But the shipyard is...

Aquitaine: Thanks for the positive comments. Simple question then: how do I join? I'd be very interested to participate/help in the AI coding. Who's in charge of that part of the project and what is the general attitude/approach/metod for the collaboration of the coding? Daveybaby: Yes and no. Like ...

Just to clarify something, my rant was not a critic of free orion, it was a rant on what you actually spent your time on most 4X games. You want to play with units (armies, ships, etc...), you end up managing planets/cities. I doubt that most players will say that managing the growth of planets/citi...

A rant about the good and the bad of most 4X games
A rant about the good and the bad of most 4X games What’s so cool about 4X games? You build ships, organise big fleets, attack your enemy fleets and then invade his planets. Repeat that process X times in the game, and at the end, you win. That’s 4X games explained in very few words. Ok, let’s look ...

Any of you familiar with HOI ?
Just wondering, Any of you guys familiar with HOI; Heart of Iron? I'd like to have your comments and feedback on the game. I know it's very different from the MoO 4X genre, but still. For my part, I think it's really good and I've been playing it on a semi-regular basis since it came out. The good t...

Good posts guys, you're all right on many points. Not being motivated by profit and time constraints does help to make things (here a game) that can be more enjoyable, but it does take longer, usually ;) Being open source is also a great idea, and many games are incorporating that feature. But you h...

Basic questions on the FO project
Hi guys, I’m new to these forums, and spent a couple of hours reading at some of your design documents and other posts. In all, there’s a lot going on, but I have the following questions to ask. What’s special about the free orion project? It may sound silly, but I think it’s a valid question; what ...
