Error installing RC-2

I just installed the new RC-2 build on windows XP but when I run it I get the following: E:\program files\freeorion\freeorion.exe This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the applicaton may fix this problem. I obviously reinstalled it but ...

power

While I like the idea of more strategy in ship building I think from a gameplay point of view it might be better to keep it simpler. If you make the power requirements for weapons as you said then it can turn into a balancing issue where since lasers require so much power everyone uses mass drivers ...

AI

Check out the following link about AI development in GalCIv II http://www.galciv2.com/Journals.aspx I think the AI game mechanics should not be different at all for different difficulty levels just the AI should be smarter or dumber. I agree with the GalCiv developer when he says that it should feel...

AI question

Looking at the roadmap I dont see anything about the AI in it. In my opinion the AI is probably one of the most important parts of a strategy game so when exactly is this going to programmed?

I know this needs to be at the end of the project and isnt important at this point but I was curious.

Constructive criticism

I agree with you daveybaby. It looks really good but It needs to be user friendly. Thats what turned me off of MOO 3. I'm one of those people who never reads the manual. I think CONSTRUCTIVE criticism is exactly what the developers are/should be looking for at this point. When your working so closel...

linux Install

I downloaded the linux installation of Free Orion but I cant find any documentation on how to install it. I thought it would be an RPM or something but it looks like its source. I'm not a programmer so normally I just follow the instructions to compile it but I cant find any instructions. Can anyone...

MAC osX

I'm not a MAC person but the people at work I know run OSX and they switch to a virtual machine build of OS9 to run OS9 programs since we havent repurchased all new graphics software yet. I know its not much help but at least you know it can be done.

What about dividing up the tech tree in tabs.

Something like this:

Physics:

A-----B------ |
| |D
C-------|

Laser Tech:

E-----F------|
| |
G------|H
|
A----- |

Edit Sorry dont know how to add the image correctly.

UI

I love it. My only complaints have already been covered. I dont like the bars and the numbers at the bottom need icons to help explain them.

Good job!!!

Just wanted to say thanks

I just wanted to thank everyone who is putting in so much effort on this project. I have been a long time lurker and havent posted a lot since I am not a programmer or artist. I just downloaded version 0.2 though and it looks very nice. There are a few bugs and obviosly needs a lot more work, but fo...

Build slots

I like the idea of linking build slots with population. I wouldnt let you build extra buildings that you cant staff though. When your planet reaches X population points a new build slot opens up. This could always then be modified based on race or tech advances. Say for a human race its every 5 mill...

Looks great

I LOVE it!!! I do think there should be less stars and they should be brighter. Also I dont think the sun (I believe thats what the bright star is supposed to be) looks quite right.

I like the font though and do not feel it needs a moon or anything.
