Well I have to admit it probably would distract from the immersion affect of the game but I really like the idea of being able to toggle certain graphical information on and off. If the button idea is to stark well a drop down menu some where else would be fine.

I'd love to do something like that. I have access to a few voice actors (and am one myself) but not so much in the way of decent recording equipment. for number of ships, i think it would be easier on all fronts to just use ship count numbers. It's a little more stark, but it does give the most information and doesn't need any mental decoding. If you have 18 ships, it's just a colored triangle with "18" inside it. I would agree leiavoia on this ...
