0.4.6 RC1 playtesting

I've only managed to play a few games, so not much of a broad perspective. I tried to stick to default settings for most attempts other than setting AI to maniacal. Overall it seemed like the AI was a little more effective than usual, with the caveat that it still sometimes puts troop ships into dan...

Re: free orion tactical space combat

My battles tend to be framed by strategy. Does this sound familiar? - Many battles are fought with an overwhelmingly powerful, concentrated fleet against little to no resistance. There would be no point in playing these fights manually; the outcome is predetermined. I might lose one ship to the plan...

Re: My Feedback

If shipcount is a significant contributor to lag, perhaps an option to reduce shipcount is for scrapping ships to refund the industry it cost to build them (provided it is done while in supply). Essentially one could salvage an older fleet to accelerate the production of modern hulls. There are draw...

Re: new game on FreeOrion_2016-05-19.4781a80_Test_Win32

Thanks for the advice. I'm a plodding amateur at best but I learn pretty quickly; SQL has been taking most of my attention lately but learning Python could be useful. Certainly the best way to learn is to have a reason to use it. I downloaded the latest (2016.05.30 win32) and fired up a human game. ...

Re: new game on FreeOrion_2016-05-19.4781a80_Test_Win32

I think what happened is I clicked to create a poll instead of to submit my post. Pilot error most likely. Thanks for the advice; I'll compose in notepad henceforth. I went ahead and played an Egassem game, 300 systems and 15 AI. Wildly different experience, which tells me I need to get a little mor...

new game on FreeOrion_2016-05-19.4781a80_Test_Win32

I had a huge message written. The forum ate it because it took me too long and I was autologged out or something. Here's a much less comprehensive replacement post, hope it is still useful. Thanks to everyone who has worked on this project. I've had a lot of fun playing and I look forward to future ...

Re: FreeOrion.exe has stopped working

I have the same crash (c5 access violation) on an AMD A10 under Windows server 2008r2. This thread provided some leads, but I have not been able to get the program running. I started with the most recent stable build and updated to 0.4.3+ SVN 7136 after the first crash. Next was to update to the lat...
