It might be easier to go 3d models rendered as 2d sprites (at least to start with) but that's just my opinion I'm not sure what the limitations are as I've only dealt with 3d programming once and it was wireframe not full shaded polygons. I'll have to cruise around the boards and check out the races...

So exactly what stage are you guys at? Have you even gotten an engine up? Just curious. I've seen alot of 3d models posted on this forum, and I guess I got the wrong idea that you were at that stage.
