You also have to factor in that two different species might not be able to talk with each other or understand how the other works. For example, in Ender's Game, the Bugs, a hive mind species, killed millions (or billions) in China upon discovering humans, not understanding that humanity doesn't work...

I would like the idea of a Dyson Swarm or Bubble as seen on the Wikipedia page instead. It would seem much more workable and realistic as opposed to a full solid sphere. Its also named a Type II civilization structure, so it would probably be a high medium to low high on the tech tree.
