Re: I think FreeOrion could benefit from being ported to Godot
Until somebody posts a proof of concept, it's only a dreamy idea.

Nothing Google can't solve for you Josh.

Looks fairly straightforward. Basically start the timelapse screencast tool, then start painting! Commentary is entirely optional.

Definitely check out http://pioneerspacesim.net then. It already is revolutionizing it.

Re: Alternative GUI font
Yes, polishing is slated for later on the roadmap, but this is low hanging fruit. It does look better to the casual eye with a more sci fi font although there are better ones out there in terms of readability and licensing. I suggest Orbitron: http://www.theleagueofmoveabletype.com/fonts/12-orbitron...

Looks very good.
It might be better placed in the Linwarrior 3D project:

Send an email to devteam # hackcraft.de to see if they are interested.

Re: Good concept, bad start
He does illustrate a very good point though. If people come across something new, especially without paying for it, their threshold for punishment is very low - they will give up incredibly easily if it doesn't work. They are not likely to try very hard before losing interest. So the moral is to tes...

Re: 3D artist to help
Did anybody ever follow this up? This is the guy responsible for the concept art on freeorion_dot_com - which I was certain I hadn't seen on the forum. His deviantart gallery has some amazing alien concept art: http://dogparry.deviantart.com/gallery/ Here's the original from the thumbnail on the fre...

Please always put up a tar.gz of releases
I know there is probably a reason (e.g. nobody has checked the release compilation procedure) but don't just put up Windows binaries when announcing releases. At the very least state that the source release is pending somebody to check it compiles. People don't want to svn just to get a release each...

Re: All said and done?
I don't get the doom and gloom messages. Good Free Software game projects usually do take years to get to a polished stage. Just look at Freeciv or Flightgear. What do I see (as the author of Free Gamer) when I look at Free Orion? A well thought out game vision, a step-by-step implementation of it t...

Re: svn read access for an amateur programmer?
I think the https://svn... requests a password but the http://svn... does not. IIRC. I could take 2 seconds to test but I typed this excuse instead.

Re: Some interesting ship models...
That's an unconstructive response. Some of the ships *are* of suitable quality. It's not a demand for you to do it, it's a suggestion. If there were any obvious style guidelines perhaps we could suggest specific ships? I'm certainly not advocating including ALL of them, 100s of them, just the few th...

Re: Some interesting ship models...
I'd rather like doing our own, from scratch. Do you know how many man-hours that will take? I don't think it's bad to aspire to have all-original content, but I believe it's wise to be pragmatic and absorb relevant material from other projects if it is suitable. They can always be replaced later on...

Vega Strike as a source?
(this post has been merged from a separate thread) Have you looked at the Vega Strike ships as a source for artwork for FreeOrion? They have over a hundred - many high quality - fully textured 3D sci-fi ships in their repositories. Some examples (off the cuff, not selective): http://vegastrike.sour...
