Re: Game Extent Past simple combat

YHBT. YHL. It's impossible to tell the difference between a sufficiently ignorant and self assured person from a troll. So I gave the OP the benefit of the doubt in the department of ignorance. And uh... it's sad to say that this kind of elitism is not rare, especially when it comes to 'deeper' gam...

Re: Game Extent Past simple combat

Wow nice attitude. You've played "old school" games like freelancer? Do tell... It's possible to like something without being a condescending dipshit, and you failed. Talk about padding your ego! I like this game. I like 'combat games' too. In fact, I like mario brothers and GTA as well! But yeah, c...

Re: No game mouse and massive screenflicker on Win10

I'm having this exact same problem on version 2015-10-12.f596343, in windows 7, 64 bit

Test Version 2015-10-12.f596343 on win 7 64 bit: No Cursor

So I tried the latest test version, and I have no mouse cursor in the game window. But it gets weirder: In certain menus in options(It was hard to get to options with an invisible cursor!), the mouse cursor appears. In those menus, hovering over something and popping up a tooltip also hides the mous...

Re: Just weapon type in designs

I like the idea that it's cheaper and quicker to advance existing weapon tech than to always just research the newest tech. It creates a choice between a quick small gain in power or a longer term investment at various points in the game. I like the fact that mass driver 4 is better than laser 1. I ...

Re: Just weapon type in designs

Why is the redundant button on by default, or for that matter, even available? Why would I ever want to install a laser 2 if I have laser 4 unlocked? Similarly, it would be nice when designing a new ship if I just selected "laser" and whenever I built one, the latest model laser would be used, so I ...

Re: Some feedback for 0.45 after 3 games

The setups I played so far were all default amounts of planets & connections, so it's been quite rare for me outside the first few turns to not have anywhere to expand. I'll have to try some more sparse setups and see how that feels. Still, I find it hard to justify spending the RP on the techs need...

Re: Some feedback for 0.45 after 3 games

Good point about terraforming/gaia xforming. I should have thought of that, because I do a lot of it, and yeah, it does create some micromanagement for sure. It does offer the choice between improving what you have vs expanding, but it seems like it comes late enough that you've usually already expa...

Re: Who moves planets and why?

Hah, I can't believe I never thought of that. It can be hard to find decent black hole systems.

Re: Most challenging map setups?

I could have sworn I saw someone mention it, and my last game with low monsters was swarming with them. Here it is.... in fact, it was your post! I think I found the major problem, and perhaps why you and I had different perceptions of the suitability of the Krill spawn rate -- a mistake about monst...

Re: Most challenging map setups?

Hmm, so low planets, no specials, no monsters, disc layout, 200 systems, 12 ai would be a good starting point I guess. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll have to download the newest test version and try that out. I know the 'official' version 0.45 has the bug with monster generation, where low mean ext...

Re: Some feedback for 0.45 after 3 games

Heh, well I know in civ even with the small costs of expansion, it was still worthwhile, my point wasn't that their system actually accomplished what they wanted, just that they imposed a slight up-front cost in population for settlers, and that sort of up-front cost is a good way to move the ROI po...

Most challenging map setups?

I'm wondering what the hardest game setup is. Lots of systems and AIs, so one of them can rise to the top of the heap and become a decent challenger? Few systems, so we're fighting right from the get-go? What type of galaxy? Space monsters seem like they'd be harder for the AI to manage than a human...

Re: Some feedback for 0.45 after 3 games

You make a fair point of course, I have only played 3 games, so perhaps I'm wrong about mega expansion being the best strategy, however, aside from the scenario of impending invasion, or the opportunity to disrupt an opponent's expansion, it's hard to imagine a time when an outpost ship and colony i...

Re: Some feedback for 0.45 after 3 games

As I said, I've only played 3 games through, so my observations are obviously limited, and I may be seeing patterns where there aren't any. I'll certainly try the latest test builds from now on, I can see how feedback for problems you may have already fixed might not be terribly useful. Plus I'm goi...
