Re: Experimenters

Sounds like OP is about to have a really bad time  Black Krakens are a big threat and spawn almost every other turn. During my games I make a big point to have a huge fleet ready to strike the experimentors as soon as the lanes open. And even my deathfleets take several turns to take down the o...

Re: 0.4.6 roadmap

Sorry for asking here in this thread, but how is 0.4.6 coming along? Is there a planned release date?

Re: AI is tooooooo slow

Just want to chime in and say that all my FreeOrion playing was done on a XP machine. By the time my turn started all AIs had finished their turns already.

My PC is dual core however, so maybe OP's single core processor is what's causing these issues.

Re: AI is tooooooo slow

I didn't try any of the test versions after the official 0.4.5 release, but my PC has around the same stats as OP and I never had such long waiting times. In the beginning turns are resolved instantly for me and even around turn 200 it takes 10-15 seconds at most. Are you sure it isn't something rel...

Re: My personal strategy guide

I've won a couple Maniacal games as Egassem. The best approach IMO is to use natives to your advantage. Invade their homeworlds, use their species to colonize as many good/adequate planets as possible and set them all to research. Meanwhile my Egassem planets are set to industry focus for my product...

Re: Winning depends on planet type availibility matching you

Ive been playing, trying to learn the game, so I set it to 1 opponent, 25 systems. Perhaps Im gimping myself with so few systems? This is the no.1 mistake newcomers do in the 4X genre. They want an easier game so they play in a small map. You're actually making things harder! Not only you have less...

Re: Winning depends on planet type availibility matching you

It's turn 72, only met one other race so far but at this point the game is already over. I snowballed into such a huge empire that my number of planets, production and research output are far above everyone else's. My opponents are using Mass Driver 4 when I already have Plasma Cannon 4  But, t...

Re: Winning depends on planet type availibility matching you

I'm playing Egassem as we speak (typical difficulty/6 opponents/500 systems). In my current game there are very few inferno planets nearby, but managed to find two planets with native species. Quickly made troop ships and invaded them. Now I can colonize tundra, toxic and swamp planets (of which the...

Re: Outpost ships vs colony ships

I still make some colony ships even for targets within supply lines if there's a good species with a shipyard nearby. Why not? Sure, outpost ships + colony buildings are the bulk of the effort, but the old way works fine too. If your target is within supply lines, you are paying a much higher PP co...

Re: One thing

Since this thread is about mentioning 'one thing', just wanted to point out that the Asteroid Reformation Processor entry in the Pedia doesn't mention that you can build Heavy Asteroid Hulls with it. And the Heavy Asteroid Hull entry also doesn't mention that a Reformation Processor is needed for i...

Outpost ships vs colony ships

Correct me if I'm wrong, but at the moment (release version 0.4.5) I see no reason to ever build colony ships to colonize planets. Outpost ships are better in every regard when it comes to that. - The total PP cost of building an outpost ship + colony is lower than building a colony ship; - CS needs...

Re: Early-game monsters with Precursor Armor

Thanks for the clarification. I guess in the end I just got unlucky with the way the guardians spawned.

Early-game monsters with Precursor Armor

Hello there, started playing FreeOrion recently and I'm enjoying it quite a bit. There's something I'd like to ask though. I started one game today (ver 0.4.5) and ran into this scenario: http://i.imgur.com/TPbVcug.png The only way out of this corner of the map is blocked by 2 monsters equipped with...
