OK folks, I think I need to lay down a rule for the forum to help move us along toward our goal. So here it is, rule #1 of the econ tech forum (drum roll please). Rule #1: Every post must include at least one econ tech idea. Please feel free to keep asking questions, posting answers, debating what i...

Hey Sol, can you post the scope of econ techs like what objects or meter this cat suppose to influence. Where do we post government techs? because it doesn't fit anywhere else. Not sure what to tell you about Gov techs, but you can post your ideas here for the time being... As far as the scope goes...

Snack-cakes.....yummmmm..... Here's a tech for ya: Application: Matter replicating vending machines Verbage: "Never outta stock! Have anything you want, any flavor you want!" Effects: +10% planet happiness, +5% planet medical costs, -2% planet production. Obesity, diabetes, fad diets, afte...

@Geoff: Good point about economies not being goverments. Perhaps the game could include both? Also, don't limit yourself to v0.3 techs, instead think about the entire "system" of econ techs, 'cause we can always pull out what doesn't fit in any particular build. @General: Your direction so...

BB, no problem. I like your civ starlane analogy. Taking it a step further, consider two cites 6 spaces apart. A two-move unit like a knight has to make several "jumps" using several "starlanes" to get from city A to city B. This gets into pathing, as the AI has to figure out the...

BTW, my 4 pages of discussion, that I mentioned above, on ways to create choke points naturally is not yet ready. Need a few days. Guess Rant and Rave is probably best place for it. Obi: Please post here, this seems to be a pretty stable thread for the starlane debate. Might not be true brainstormi...

Is this thread intended to generate "isolated" tech names and associated effects, or the general progression / structure of the economics tech tree (if such a concept exists distinct from other categories' trees)? I'd say both. To my understanding, both the techs and how the tech tree is ...

This is coming from me, not the heavy hitters, so take it for what it's worth... @utilae: I think there will be a "cash" or "credit" or even "energy" meter (like SMAC) that will be generated by a tax on something and used to support your empire. So, obviously, econ tech...

Hi All, welcome to the economics tech forum. As best I understand it, AQ would like us to move beyond pure brainstorming to start putting form and substance to some of the theories and applications that will affect an empire's economy. Only trouble is that these techs haven't really been defined, so...

I don't see why you want to connect all stars within X distance... AND have a distance limit on ships. The latter makes the former redundant... which is getting a bit too close to having lanes connecting all systems, which many people equate to not having lanes at all... so you might have some trou...

Geoff, is is possible to set up a galaxy where each star is connected to all other stars within X distance (via star lanes, of course)? This might sound crazy, but there's a method to my madness here... Doesn't sound especially crazy... sounds quite reasonable, whether you want to hide all the lane...

Any programmers live near SF, Boston or Chicago?

This is going to sound ludicrous, but I'd really like to help make this game great. To do that, it would probably help if I could tweak certain parts of the code, compile my changes and run the program to see the effect. (that's proabably way obvious to everyone here). The trouble is I'm not a progr...

@miu - Good point about the tech tree. I'm wondering if you couldn't include that somehow in a "mouse over" pop-up window. For example, you scroll over one of the theories and it pops up a little window showing its place within the the tech tree and which applications it allows. If you the...

I sketched out one idea a while back, the "screen shots" are up at http://www.pbase.com/solartrix - they're not the prettiest, but I kinda like the idea of having 3 pop-ups for the theory, technology, and refinement lists with some sort of image in the background showing what your scientis...
