I changed from Debian i386 to Ubuntu 8.10 amd64.
the problem is still there
FreeOrion 0.3.11 works well WITHOUT any problems

I've got statically build version, means ogre is from source. Only the freeorion window is blurred. my desktop remains unchanged in the background. I used "dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig-config" to enable antialising with subpixel and also installed the mst-corefonts. Nothing changed yet, so ...
