VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility M7 LW [Radeon Mobility 7500] This seems to be the core of your problem, TBH - Wikipedia (the standard repository for all knowledge and wisdom, though it has many omissions and contains much that is apocryphal, or at least wildly inaccu...

Re: Does not start on Linux
This is a problem on ALSA-pulseaudio level. It's a known bug (googling it shows mainly Ekiga and ALSA bugtrackers). It should help if we can get it to try to use pulseaudio oss emulation first, but as I can see from OpenAL IRC logs the config file syntax has changed, so it'll take me some time to wo...

Re: 0.3.14 crashes while mouse-moving (Win32)
The sound loop does not have to indicate a sound problem - the sound system updates sound buffers at each frame (it's not in a separate thread). Anything that would crash the game could cause this effect (buffer not updated in time and played repeatedly). As far as I remember the sound system is qui...

Re: Recent crashes with OpenGL 1.4
How about creating a separate "Check system" application (like old games used to have) This would create a bit of extra work and possibly duplicate some code already in freeorion (yay! copy and paste!), but it would be easier to make it platform-specific then. edit: I checked - there is no...

I may be busy with research for a while, and not post so much here. I know what you mean  you did find yourself a good research subject there. Though for absolute pinnacle, try finding a friend with another copy and play over lan... that's a whole day of serious researching gone without yo...

Re: profiling freeorions sources?
As for asteroids I wonder if something like Paged Geometry plugin for Ogre would be applicable ( http://www.ogre3d.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=36655 ) - I mean, rendering huge forests and asteroid belts is a bit similar (lots of similar geometry, most likely static), or at least use Compiled Vertex A...

Re: OGRE
Is [OGRE] doing anything visible within the game yet? No. Elaborating on Geoff's response: currently it's not doing anything and you're not missing out on anything. All work on integrating OGRE is done in a separate code branch called ogre-integration. (if you don't know what that means don't worry...

Re: Don't click if you don't like pictures.
Hmm... after seing Roxanne I thought that if we ever get to a point where making a fully-fledged manual will seem like a good idea, I'd say you'd be the one to illustrate it, Blizzard-like (you know, sketches on pages) or like the Warhammer Fantasy Battle manual (also pictures in different parts of ...

Re: Ogre-integration
Could you elaborate a bit? What does this option do, and what problem does it fix? Is there a link to something on the Ogre ste I could read about this? Ogre docs are usually not very good when it comes to string-based options -- it's hard to find out what such strings do. It's due to buggy drivers...

Re: Statically linked Linux-version
Sound stuttered, but I think I read that's a common and solvable problem? Sound or sound and music? If it's sound and music then the problem lies between OpenAL and ALSA/OSS (whatever is used as a backend) and you should go to FO wiki's FAQ page - http://www.freeorion.org/index.php/FAQ and try usin...

Re: [[Concept]] Ships for Species: Chato'matou'Gormoshk
A typical lit space scene, consist of a single sharp light source. The many distant stars all around don't have a vivible effect. There is some heavy bounced light involved if you are near a planet. Yes, that is true, but what we percieve as real/natural is what we see in everyday life. And we see ...

Re: [[Concept]] Ships for Species: Chato'matou'Gormoshk
Making something along those lines or more detailed wouldn't really be a problem. The only issue I see myself in a pickle is if the ships are too detailed, like looking at a Borg cube or something. The fine little details in the sides of the hull might be a little iffy. That's what textures are for...
