I like this idea, it would be quite interesting as a post v1.0 mod.

I do think that this thread is much more fitting in the brainstorming section.

Hang on to something, it's going to be a bumpy ride.

Civil unrest

I’ve been thinking about how civil unrest could be implemented. Here’s what I’ve come up with: Each society has a preference for how their ruler acts. There are a limited number of unrest profiles that you can choose from, and each profile takes a different number of racial picks. One type of societ...

Man, that’s a lot to read all at once. I’m about half way through and as much as I hate posting before reading an entire thread, I figured I would post some comments now before I forget them. Let me just say first of all.. excellent job. You’re a very good writer. Arachnix - If the length of your ar...

Well, for most people role playing is about character building and collecting. Neither of these concepts fit well into freeorion as it now stands. In order to attract some of the RPG crowd, it would not be enough to implement a version of character building or collecting just within a single galaxy....

Yes, I was thinking of very large tech decreases, something like a factor of ten. Of course there could be more events, with smaller rewards, but they would behave roughly equivalently and just having two events is simpler to conceptualize. Also, the costs of technology would have to increase much f...

I like the homeworld soundtrack. I used to put the CD for that game in my CD player just for a little background music.

I'll assume you posted it as a new topic because you want creative criticism. A+ on the formatting. Your quotes end in odd places. Various irregularities in sentence structure, but otherwise very readable. The main issue I have is that you make certain assumptions about the relative age of another r...

Not making pong? NOT MAKING PONG???? This is news to me. I purpose a poll: Should we include pong in the game? 1) Yes.. it would make the game twice as fun! 2) Yes... though its not the center of the game. 3) No.. i really dont care. 4) NO!... i hate you! you should be shot!! I anticipate a sharp ri...

I like the level based system because it solves that very thing that you are talking about, dave. It works like this: You add two events to the game, both of which decrease the cost of every tech in the game for everyone in the game. Event one can be triggered when 80% of the systems in the galaxy h...

Fine, I challenge you to go to some random (non-programmer) game-player and ask them to define a simple 3D model of an apple. Regardless of how many mouse clicks it takes, it takes an intelligent person several hours to learn the basic concepts necessary to define things in 3D. I don't think the ave...

If the game uses 3d models anywhere it would be very hard to allow a user to plug in their own 3d models. If everything is sprite based it may be possable, but I'm not sure it would be good to eleminate the possability of using 3D models for ships.

Well, I guess this is another case where I'll implement one system, you implement another, and maybe we'll see how it turns out in the end.

how do you determine the target number of empires? Presumably this would be a function of the size of the galaxy? The target # is the number of empires you had in mind for the game when you made all the tech costs. i.e. when you said that lasers cost 240RP and had a max of 60RP/turn you were assumi...

I use an extremely old program that has excellent help for audio editing called cooledit pro. The technology hasn’t really changed much over the last 5 years (as far as I know.) For recording I suggest you find yourself a mic that plugs into a USB port and encodes the signal digitally, and not one t...

your first reason for not wanting a turn dependence are rather odd... hardly a "fundamental flaw" I thought I heard you mention not wanting to limit other aspects of the game. I suppose you are right, though: I’ve never played a 4x game in which this was a large concern. It will be a concern in my ...
