Space strategy: Where and how?
This is a separate semi-official thread from the 'building the design doc' because it's a little more abstract. In everything we've done so far, we've looked at a lot of previous products in our on-going quest not to re-invent the wheel and to perfect what's there rather than try to outsmart people ...

Re: leiavoia's post, that's mostly a technical consideration. I fully appreciate that tzlaine is going to look at what I send him and have me killed already, so I thought by limiting it to 4 sides, we'd at least have some semblence of knowing how and when to apply the brakes. What could be possible ...

There is a lot of assumption going on that the requirements are requiring a specific implementation. I appreciate that you want them less ambiguous, Geoff, and while I the final product will definitely take into account this thread and a lot of conversation about just these issues, they are sometime...

Re: Combat Requirements Doc - Preliminary
Not all combats will be epic... In some cases a few ships could have a minor skermish from which one retreates... that's not going to be epic no matter how the engine works. Unless you want to just skip any non-epic combats (autoresolve), some rewording is order. Yes, of course. This goes without s...

Combat Requirements Doc - Preliminary
Hi folks, Been away for a while but working a bunch on FO in the last week. Right now, we're in the process of writing a separate design document for the tactical engine (which I have been calling the FreeOrion Tactical Combat Engine, or FTCE, since it makes me feel important). This document is goin...

I'm not sure if you're referring to the brainstorming threads or the design threads -- if you're talking about Brainstorming, then Dreamer's pretty much got it, it's a free-for-all. For the design threads, we don't always know exactly how things are going to interact; we give as much detail as we ca...
We don't pander to people who antagonize members of this project for any reason. See the announcement board regarding conduct. I'm not interested in 'claims to power,' especially where what you see as my 'power' is really 'my spending a great deal of free time working on design documents and organiz...

I've gone over the effects guide (excelent work!) and some of the category contents. I will be updating the 'official list' threads this weekend and filling out descriptions for some of the techs that don't have them. I'm not too concerned about getting the game mechanics absolutely perfect for v0.3...

I think effects for theories should be kept to a minimum; otherwise they are just applications that unlock other applications. I do agree (to some extent) that the theory name should, ideally, give the player some sense of what the applications are without having to look at them. But they should be ...

Hi everybody-- A quick heads up on what's going on next. I'm going to be spending some time on what's been submitted thus far, along with the how-to guide for effects that's floating around, and figure out what our next step is. This will take me a few days, so if you've had anything stewing you wan...

Thought I'd stick this here instead of creating a new 'absence' thread. I am going on tour from the middle of February until the middle of May. This means that I will be largely unavailable until the middle of February in rehearsal, but once I go on the road, I won't have much else to do, so my acti...
