Galaxy History - Playing different Ages

I apologize in advance if this is in the wrong forum (as opposed to brainstorming) - However the idea does have some story impacts so I thought I'd share this.. Oh, and it's rather long, so if you're the kind like me who has a short attention span, there's always Duke Nukem Forever. Had this idea at...

Post for sinister...

This post is mostly directed to sinister, but I just wanted to itinerate to those that hate starlanes, that being creative in designing starlanes one could have the best of both worlds. Instead of a direct line from Star A to Star B, you could have a group of nodes between star A and Star B of empty...

High school orchestra

As my music teacher used to tell us, our high school band sounded like "five pounds of sh*t in a four pound bag" I especially found it funny that one time during a concert when our drummer lost his drumming stick halfway through phantom of the opera, reached down to grab it, and brought down the ent...

No wonder

- I was wondering why his stuff sounded great -> First he composes his music to sheet, then conducts it by a live orchestra score, then mixes effects into the score using his multitude of Gigastudio machines. YIKES! I just have a 5 octave aftertouch-sensitive keyboard, and only two machines (one for...

planet ogg.s and stuff

The planet .oggs are interesting in that they're more fluff than they are practical. I figured that with any sound effect being played, the music is reduced 50% to give the effect more focus. (Such as Warcraft 3 does whenever there is speech). I figured they could be used ... A) When looking at an u...

Concept behind planetary sound effect

The approach I took to the planetary sound effects (Industry_large.wav, farming_small.wav, research_medium.wav) as mentioned in the .txt was that when one clicks on a planet that is colonised, the effect plays when the planet display window is opened. Similar to clicking on a building in your averag...

Bug / Thoughts and governemnts

I often wonder what other forms of government have yet to be decided based on what humans have not discovered or invented... A) Issac Asimov's postulate that giant computers make the big decisions based on the 3 laws - the cybernetic society in alpha centauri choice, if you will. (Not to be mistaken...

Playing Moo3

Moo3 ship fighting is a lot more interesting if you increase the tech research delay, making for onger period warfare.

Another source

Another source of inspiration that I am seeking to gain some insights to, is the composer to Neverwinter Nights - Hordes of the Underdark. There's just something about Orchestral music that gets me. Bioware has a really nice history of obtaining composers from Baldur's Gate all the way to Neverwinte...

Haunting Music

One reason I like Human Chorals and any use of the Human voice is that it creates and emotional connection with the listener. Howard Shore (the one who composed the LOTR trilogy music) goes on to explain how it can be used to emphasize certain parts. I've been looking into the right DSP setup to giv...

Re: Defence / Offence

That's why I'm suggesting that all systems are defended rather then a concentration of forces. I'd suggest that if the enemy can bypass a system and attack the one 'behind' it, then there is no depth in the static defenses and there must be no reserve available to plug the gap. True, like the prove...

Defence / Offence

The problem with the above is that, even if you build a massive amount of defence on a certain system, you've limited your mobile attack capability. Your opponent can and often will just mass their ships into one giant fleet and bypass that system. Or, they will use that giant fleet to secure other ...

Alien Artifact

..."General ChuOm! May your fangs be sharp!" announced the Emporor, eyeing her General with a keen sense of interest. What news would he bring to the table... delicious news she would savour like a cooked Rill skinned in Jumberry sauce. This news better not be foul! "Emporor KrhaU, may your empire s...

WE FOUND A WITCH!!! CAN WE BURN HER?!??!

- Seriously though, I guess it's up to the dev's to ponder. They (the stories) may not go well together, or they may link like two missing jiggsaw puzzle pieces.

Storyline

... I would almost predict that when races and storyline are given their major focus, that the need for a 'storyline' designer may be required. Having someone with an english major, or someone who is has experience in creative writing, would be a great asset. Not saying that any of us don't have any...
