some obvious requirements

Requirement 13 - Orders given to ship / ships are undertaken in the way the player expects them to behave. In other words, if I tell a ship to move forward, it moves forward, with an indication that it IS moving forward (either by animating the thruster jets behind the ship, etc...) Also, if I tell...

attention grabber

Perhaps if the attention grabber cycled (faded in / out / in / out) it would not be such a clutter, as most of the other stuff on the galaxy map is static. I like the icon you designed - Perhps you could append a tiny icon on top of the exclamation mark to explain what the event stands for... ie: co...

an Alternative...

Here's an alternative... You get the 'time travel' technology in the year 2400. In the year 2405, a leader from the future visits you. She has some extra bonus statistics that put her ahead of the other leaders because she is from the future. She tells you that she comes from the year 2455. So all i...

selection

looks good!

Here's a question: Is it possible to animate these images with, say, an auto-looped 30 frame image? I remember making a bunch of those in Moo3, which simply used a list of .png files numbered from 1 to 30 for the system selection (remember that spinning reticle?).

System selection

Can it be animated? (IE: Series of 20 .png files looped forward to back).

Ships and Ground forces.

Hmmm. That could be quite an interesting way to play the game ... Question: How would you colonise new planets in a system without exploring it? Would you gain immediate knowledge of neigboring systems or something? This could be an interesting idea to hold on to... Having one race that can move fro...

Irates - Privateers

Actually it is in referral to the ability of really small ships to pass through heavily defended systems to be able to do some hit-and-runs on the core systems... To prevent the "Massive border buildup and eventually big fleet battle that determines who wins / loses" that happens often in Strategy g...

Interesting

It would be interesting if, by the end of the day, the weapon system resembled a little bit what is in Starcraft... For example, you start out with your trusty Marine. Then you get Firebats, who are much stronger at short-range combat. You get Medics who suppliment your marines really well. After a ...

Raid and pillage

You could have small nimble corvettes in your fleet - "Pirates" if you will, that do not trigger planetary and starbase defences. With them you could raid planets and steal some resources. Of course, once they have raided a planet (or a system), they lose their "pirate" flag until they return back t...

Weapon ideas

I like the idea proposed above about weapons having different effects... There is more micromanagement needed in ship upgrades, or in ship design, if the different weapon effects are roughly the same. Instead of having to upgrade a weapon from Laser to Graviton just to get that extra amount of damag...

Heroes

A leader could cause a sudden shift in imbalance if you got one of those super-'uber' heroes early or even mid game. The smaller, lesser leaders often had very small bonuses and only progressed over time did not have that much of an effect... However, don't forget that Humans in Moo2 were luckier th...

The problem

The problem with having a collection of ships that move at different speeds on the galaxy map is that it will add a *LOT* more micromanagement than would be desired. If all ships travel on the galaxy map at their own speeds, you will have the fast ships arriving at their destination before the slowe...

Ship speeds

I'm a little hesitant to give ships the ability to have different engines with different travel times. In Moo2 once you researched the right technology the speed of all your ships was instantly upgraded. This ensured that the player would not have to micromanage a fleet of 2 spaces / turn ships and ...

PLant like race

I don't think speed or reaction time would be a factor if they can develop tools to deal with these issues. We humans have created computers as tools to process billions of calculations a second... We would be at a huge disadvantage if we were up against a race that had reaction times a billion time...
