Ships

Hmmm - well we know that the higher the mass of an object, the more force must be exerted on it to bring it at a certain velocity. I figured that you could have ships like the USS Enterprise, that are equally large yet very nimble... or have large ships such as in Freespace, which are slow but carry...

Planet textures

Hi - just took a glimpse of the textures on the planetary spheres, just wanted to say they look really nice!

However, I noticed that it is all one texture envelope per planet. In the future, will there be a texture for the planet and perhaps an overlapping texture for the atmosphere?

great work!

Forests and pinecombs

I really don't get this objection on human-centric grounds... or even understand what guiguibaah is referring to when calling "Forest" human-centric. Lots of different things could live in forests. The point of them is that they have lots of big tall tree-like vegetation, similar to what's found in...

Forest

The only issue here is that when we think "forest" we first think "Evergreen / Deciduous / Apple, pine,Cedar,Birch,Fir, etc" - things that are good and come quickly to mind. However we often forget that even here on earth one can have a forest of seeweed, mushrooms, kelp, etc... Obiwan's 2nd toxic pi...

Neat!

I like the small attention to detail - I noticed the upper left monitor seems to be a screencap of one FO's UI.

Nicely done :)

CIV 3

... Just to say that I absolutely hated the CIV3 spy system. I'd have a russian spy in my egyptian empire, and... Hey look there goes my aqueduct... oh, next turn it's my barracks. Better get rid of him... OH, what's this I have to PLANT a spy in HIS empire to rout out his wrongdoings? Okay, I'll ju...

Site for Soundfonts

A place I now visit for some interesting soundfonts is http://www.sf2midi.com - although one has to be a little careful to download legit copies... in other words, soundfonts that start with "EMU ...." are those that were ripped off a CD and placed on a site. Even if you don't use soundfonts, they p...

Something on Star Trek

A long time ago I watched an episode of Star Trek, The next generation, where the premise of the episode was a time traveller from the 22nd century steals a 26th century time machine and takes it to the 24th century. He begins to steal various items, like scanners, phasors, medikits, etc... so that ...

I like conceprt drawings

I like the concept drawings for all sorts of things - They could be lifted from the paper they are produced and placed into the game. You could even animate a few (5 frames) in a certain animation style.... I don't know how to call it, but the drawing stays the same but the lines move a little.... A...

If given time...

I'm sure it could be a "map option" ... You have galactic spiral, ring, cluster, etc... I'm sure you could also have "spehroid" as an option. It's basically a repeating map on the X and Y planes anyway.

I think I get it

Ah, I see - As to Obiwan's question, here's how it would look... Take a blank piece of paper and with a pencil, draw 30 stars on it. Now take that blank piece of paper, and curve it so it becomes a sphere. You would now be looking at a space "globe". Drop a tiny tiny camera inside the globe, and tha...

Panoramic View

I like the idea of a Panoramic view to give the player a feeling of depth. That is what space is all about. However, the panoramic view is based on the observer being inside the galaxy and looking out. Pehaps the observer is at the centre of the galaxy and can twist / turn as they see fit. The probl...

Music

Actually about 55% of that stuff is soundfonts, 25% is Gigastudio, 15% is my old LAPC-1 soundcard and 5% is me on a microphone with VST/DirectX effects.

Hostile Lifeform

Actually the list was just to give more background on hostile lifeforms. Instead of clicking on a planet and seeing the "Hostile lifeform" tag, it would be more immersive to have a bit of background on what it is, and perhaps a sketchy picture or two. I thought it could also be interesting to have a...
