@solartrix. You know that both civ and gal-civ are 2 dimensional AND have very limited "starlanes"?

What?

Yes, both have only 8 starlanes going into each system/town.

@Geoff I'd like to if I'd know myself :). AQUITAINE As I didn't participate in the latest stages of the decision on categories, I have to wait together with you for answers from our glorious team leader. ^^ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Longho...

Tichy, the military is usually the strongest parts of large empires. Guess how they became large? Actually its also only a question of geometry. A larger body has a smaller surface compared to its volume. So in a large empire there will be much less border areas, and much more "safe" areas" thus dec...

We have worked out what categories we have, and we know that cross category requirements will occure. Not much more done yet, as the category moderators are just starting their discussions.

pd wrote: @all: is it true that a theory always has a parent theory? i thought that an application and even a refinement can also lead to a new theory... Hmm, iirc we didn't decide that exactly. But logically i'd say yes, every application needs at least one theory as parent. Its the, well theoreti...

OK, lets bring examples: Anyone remembers Traveller New Era? They have a jump drive, that depending on tech level could jump between 1-6 parsec (=systems). That was nice to establish traderoutes and such. BUT: frontiers where nightmares. Each frontier had to be at least 5 systems deep, else a high t...

Hmm, I don't know any game with a techtree (not a half educated tech-bush aehm, shrub ^^) that manages to display it on just one window. You always have to scroll. So SMAC style would also be ok, as it allowes for the greatest amount of tech-tree while also giving you easy access to the details.

Maximum RP multiplier

OK, lets get a start. The first think I would suggest we do, is get a rough feeling for overall RP. The learning category will be the one category that increases the RP amount producable per population unit. So while growth and construction will influence how much researchers you have, learning will...

There is no overfunding in that way. That is especially why we have a turn limit on research. If we would allow overfunding this turn limit would be senseless. So to say it clearly: Each research needs x RP for y turns. There is no way to decrease Y, but it will increase if you underfund a project. ...

Can't find refinements on your proposal. Where would you place it?

AFAIK every application will need at least one parent theory, but might also need more theories, applications or even certain refinement levels on an application.

Like refinement 5 on lasers to be able to develop CD drives.

Actually it IS a developer driven process. Though we don't "vote" on an issue every time someone finds the way to brainstorming board and starts screaming "thats completely wrong". There is a lead team, that is finally the one to make decisions. There are working teams, that work out the basics for ...

Thirteen "has" more then six letters (8), but it contains only 6, as "t" and "e" are doubles.

@noelte: Im Deutschen würden wir sagen: enthält 6 verschiedene Buchstaben bzw. hat 6 Buchstaben. Sind zwei verschiedene Sachen :).

I dislike that flat HFoG as it suggests that all colonies are afflicted in the same way. Thats not right, but if we gonna use both ways, hfog and morale, I'd still ok a flat hfog (to keep it simple). About morale and culture: Ranos, real great idea. I was all the time talking about backwater provinc...
