I only use it to prepare against crashes or if I'm quitting. I never load an earlier one to undo a mistake. Iron Man rules makes it so if you save the game it quits you, and I *think* you can only have one saved game, but I'm not sure. No autosaves either. Something like that, I can't remember. Ther...

Stars! also had initiative to decide order, which I think was a good idea. You had to choose whether to make a ship high initiative, or sacrifice some for other advantages (more weapons, faster movement, better armor, whatever).

Which is one reason why I don't think TB is totally useless.

I had another agenda for asking :) Nightfish is telling me about how he finds Transcendant in SMAC not difficult enough. Whereas I found it a great victory to win it. But now his (and your, Utilae) secret shame is revealed for all to see. I'm curious to know just how much easier it is when you can l...

Use saved games?

I'm curious to know how many of you guys, if something goes bad, load game? I'm thinking of Alpha Centauri primarily, but it applies to other strategy games. I used to do that when I was younger - but since playing multiplayer games I've come to live with the mistakes I make and try to make the best...

Check out http://www.phpbb.org, there's a mods section which may have some useful features. I want to install the quick reply mod, I've found that really useful on forums that have had it.

It may have what you are talking about.

I've updated the main references to the new forums, if you see any other stale links let me know.

I've added sourceforge to the reminders box, good idea. And to the weblinks - ah I see the broken forums link you mean. I fixed that now.

Thanks

You'll see a "Profile" link up the top. Click on that and near/at the bottom you'll see a box where you can type in the URL to your avatar image. Just stick it in there and it should work (unless it's too large).

I do like the sitrep report design. Burndaddy, maybe you could use this as a basis for the design? I think you were asking about it earlier, and tsev was asking you for something simple, intuitive and powerful?

I can't remember :)

Great to hear from you :) rpm's are easy to use. Probably many tutorials. Best if you check out commands like apt-get or something. I've never used it myself but it sounds good. rpm -Uvh <package> - installs a package or upgrades it if it already exists rpm -e <package> - uninstalls a package rpm -q...

I was thinking about the sourceforge thing myself. But those forums are often very sloooow. Maybe mutliple people can make and keep offline mirrors of the forums? You don't have to use the built-in forums on Sourceforge; I've set up a forum similar to this one in preparation for GG's migration to i...
