Re: Species Values Discussion

As for research ...
Maybe conservatives should have a malus for research, but reduced costs of refinements?

Re: Species Values Discussion

Open-minded: receptive, tolerant, impartial, approachable. Not directly related to research, good also for relations/diplomacy. Bad for resisting heresy. Superstitious: unfounded, unproven; OR gullible, credulous, apprehensive (afraid, anxious, suspicious, fearful). That one maybe only for natives....

Re: Species Values Discussion

Not a native speaker myself, but I don't think intellectual necessary relates to invention. Rather it's about studying, teaching and learning.

Maybe curious or open-minded?

Also should I change the name of the pro-research value to something else, maybe Intellectual?
I'd say Scientific vs Superstitious.

Re: Ideas for small/atomic theme categories

I can't say I disagree with your points. To be precise, I was imagining light spaceships with crew, not strictly "fighter" type. Then again, I'm influenced by Empire from the Ashes trilogy, and David Weber is by no means a credible source for realistic space combat (or realistic combat in general, I...

Re: Ideas for small/atomic theme categories

I think psionics could also have detection boosts, stealth boosts (hypnotic), and logistic boosts (better communication). Do you consider including clairvoyance and telekinesis, it just telepathy? You guys keep calling fighters drones, while I imagine them as manned craft (without FTL capabilities),...

Anyway, know that I applaud you in your efforts. Know, that you are not doing this just for the benefit of your own pedantry. :D

Re: Help with setting up

Any particular problems? Is this about move/copy constructors that you mentioned in GitHub?

Re: Help with setting up

dictates the layout of the source code and the SDK structure, making changes an unnecessary PITA doesn't provide any of the flexibility to allow multiple build trees or different build configurations Glad I'm not the only one bothered by this. When I have time, I'll add ./build/ to .gitignore (as i...

Re: Help with setting up

That is unfortunate.

I was hoping to learn using CMake while contributing.

So, if I'm not using CMake and I absolutely do not want sources and SDK in the same directory, I will need to edit the solution files myself (or using python)?

Help with setting up

I'm trying to build freeorion, but I'm not really used to CMake. I only used VS solutions, make and SCons so far. As far as I can tell it's an endless cycle of firing it and then checking out what's missing, and then firing it again and checking out what's missing and entering the same path to SDK t...

Re: About Tech Tree GUI

And lastly, let's focus on the structure of the "tech tree" for now, and discuss the UI once we have fleshed it. Others have addressed this already, but I would like to point out, that one of the reasons for the current design discussion regarding research is that the old model is hard, if possible...

Re: Ideas for small/atomic theme categories

Bombs
Troop ships
Fleet support other than repair (fuel modules, drone factories, flagship bonuses etc.)

I would conflate some of these categories, for example shields and armor (they are essentially different ways to improve ship defence).

Re: About Tech Tree GUI

I like these ideas. Additionally, if someone finds it useful (I think I don't) a different form of display that also hides theories (and so also the theme/tiered structure) and only shows the selected functions as floating, independent techs showing its relevant information (including theme, tier, f...

Re: Themed Tech Tree Fundamentals

Risking downplaying my arguments a lot (and going off topic even more)... Take my opinions with a grain of salt. While I did play some FreeOrion in the past and intend to contribute some C++ coding in near future (once life allows it), I can't say I'm coming from a position as informed as most of yo...
