For me it keeps being species traits and policies with steps: instead of picking it at game start and bound to the starting species, or during game and affecting the whole empire via policies, you get it at game start and affecting the whole empire. I think the main idea here should be "easily achievable iff specialising". So it would be great if empire could grow into its role. That most certainly should remain/be possible - but that can only work to a certain extend. The Origin mechanic is supposed to provide the prerequisites for strategies...

With atrition you would have to constantly send troop ships there possibly ad infinitum. For reinvasion you only have this once. Unless reinvasion magically removes the reasons why the colony became unstable and rebel troops generated in the first place, not really. The colony would become unstable...

I don't see how it would be more work than achieving consensus on assignments on a case-by-case basis. IMO there is a quite huge difference: The latter is just a discussion about what each species likes/dislikes. The former is a discussion about the design of a new mechanic, and its fundamental lay...

I personally would like to see the mechanic come first. With values/ideals as a foundation I think we are in a much more solid place to build from. Just in case, I don't consider "clustered" disconnected empires that do not entangle within enemy supply lines, since that seems like a rather uninteresting scenario: nothing to win from not using supply connection, just a bizarre case. Haven't thought much about what other kinds of supply disconne...

I was mainly interested in incorporating the idea of values/categories for species that match to ideals/categories for policies. I think that would provide a good framework for players to make judgments about policy selection, and for programmers to set the system up; as opposed to randomly assigni...
