Alpha centauri and Civ 4 only let you play as humans. That comes with a set of assumptions that probobly wont be applicable to aliens and since we have multiple species of aliens fundamentalist would probably mean very different things to each one.

Okay -- back on topic; we really don't need to include Theocracy as a specific governmental type. Perhaps if we called one of the options "Fundamentalist" -- that way it could be secular fundamentalism (which is just as bad) as well as religious -- and that relegates religions to flavor-text. P.S. I for one would much prefer if we left religion out of the game completely. No good can come of including it, as I have never been satisfied with any depiction that I have ever seen in any video game. Fortunately no one gets offended when fictional religions get portrayed badly, and aliens arn...

wouldn't ant colonies be: one individual = one colony? So how a colony organises internally won't actually be that important.

I won't have a good guess what those other governments actually mean. That's solvable with the UI, the government name is less important than the easily readable list of pluses and minuses beneath it. If you chose a nonhuman race the stars could be labelled in nonhuman script. definitely shouldn't ...

Bio-tech bias sounds good, we already have biological ships planned and it just makes sense (and its interesting gameplay) that such races would farm rather than mine to feed their industry. It also works for anyone who extracts their building materials from something living.

Any fundamentalist government is going to vary hugely depending on just what they believe. Personally I think the best idea is for each race to have several pre-chosen governments to pick from that fit with their charachter. Yeah, but it also says that 1.0 will be the final release. It dose? that can't be right, we talked quite a bit about post V1.0 and like all open source projects it will continue for as long as people want to work on it. That's a shame. A plant builder race would be a great alternative to the cliche...
