Re: The Help Thread

I don't think you need a options.cache, the parameters to "scons configure" are saved there. The "default" values should not be in the options.cache but in the scons-scripts themselves, so this file should not be included in svn.

Re: multiple cores?

There could be a AI-process for every AI-Player, so the system should be able to use all cores.

I think AI is the only component which takes advantage of more CPU-Power. The GUI is one big factor which could possibly be optimized, since it consumes almost all available CPU-Power for now.

Re: new forum software reaction

From the phpBB3 Web-page Minimum Requirements phpBB3 has a few requirements which must be met before you are able to install and use it. * PHP 4.3.3+ (>=4.3.3, >4.4.x, >5.x.x, >6.0-dev (compatible)) with support for the database you intend to use. * getimagesize() function need to be enabled * These...

Re: Statically linked Linux-version

I think it's not only the FO-Sourcecode which i have to supply. That would not be a problem, as I could zip it into the download.

Re: Statically linked Linux-version

The latest Revision 2195 is now available statically linked. This version does not run any more on my debian sarge machine, quitting with an "API error", so maybe other distibutions with older libraries do not work. Tested are: Debian Edge OpenSuSE 10.2 Download: http://freeorion.psitronic.de/ I thi...

Re: Statically linked Linux-version

This may re related to a prior installation. Please check for /home/moo/.freeorion and delete/move this directory. Another problem I saw is, that an existing "bin" directory at the same level as the freeorion-dir leads to some problems in finding the default directory. Do you have a dir /home/moo/te...

Re: Statically linked Linux-version

The newest version (which I currently only have local) does not even need libstdc++. Currently I don't know from anyone who was not able to run that version.

Re: planet special icons

I forgot to mention, that "red" seems to be negative, but "tidal lock" isn't (or did I understand the tooltips wrong?).

Re: planet special icons

I like these icons. Nice work.

Only one critic: the first two icons are very similar, you cannot really see a difference. Maybe the "tidal lock" could be in another color.

Re: 0.3 graphics summary / sidepanel revision

Rather than, or in addition to, degrees of greying, what about alternative ways to indicate these things? Perhaps there could be a column where available and buildable at the selected location could be shown with a green checkmark icon, avaialble but not buildable at the selected location could be ...

Re: planet special icons

These icons look like a moon... maybe you should consider not making them round. But they seem discernible; however, the player will have to learn their meaning (they're not self-explanatory). I agree to that... after some turns the player will have learned the meaning, especially because they have ...

Re: Ships: Supply

Maybe it could be a good idea to support more than one model of support, letting the player choose at game-setup what he prefers. In some games it's really annoying to have to supply your fleets, more than ever in a game vs. AI.

Re: Statically linked Linux-version

So, what is better than? Having an executable, which has some dependencies left, or having no executable at all? I don't think that it is a good idea to link everythink statically. For example, on my systeme there are some nvidia-libs. That code won't work on systems without nvidia-modified kernel. ...

Re: Statically linked Linux-version

I updated the statically linked "Distribution". The tar.gz contains the binaries AND data. You can download and untar it anywhere on your system. The following requirements need to be fullfilled: libncurses / ncurses libgpm / gpm libGL and libGLU (should be installed by default) There's a README.txt...
