Re: 0.3 graphics summary / sidepanel revision

To get brighter than the fully saturated colour, use a transparent white overlay. I'm assuming the darker areas are varied black transparency. It's just the equivalent of that using white.

Re: Statically linked Linux-version

You could try something like autopackage which takes such issues into account.

Re: Release schedule

+1 for nightlies, if possible. They are a nice compromise between very regular releases (which require coordination and consume valuable developer time) and irregular releases (which can frustrate users).

It also makes it easier to play-balance the game. Say you decide you want an additional 3 planets - now you have to hard code them which is annoying (edit->compile->test->edit... etc) and means only a few people will have the familiarity / knowledge to do it. If it's in a config/script file then it ...

I'm an admirer of the VS project, but using the VS engine to provide the 3D for FreeOrion would be like using a pneumatic drill to add the finishing touches to a piece of furniture. Not only is it complete overkill, the results would probably be worse for more effort than doing it yourselves. I woul...

And as already stated earlier, I had prepared an autopackage based binary. And that wouldnt work on most distros. Did you tell the autopackage guys about this? I'm sure they'd be either able to fix it to work on most distros or be eager to address any shortcomings you have exposed with their system.

As suggested earlier in the thread, you should just use autopackage and let the distros worry about providing their own specific packages if they really want to.

Have you guys checked out Autopackage which could be a great way of supporting most distros with minimum effort.

Well there's plenty of choice in the 3D engine department. OGRE and Crystal Space are two of the high profile ones.

Well, jacks provides this meta-link for VS story/background info.

He also says (based on a quick look through freeorion.org) that, while the VS backstory might not be the best fit, there is a lot of species and backstory work that you might find of interest. He'd be happy if anything comes of it.

That looks amazing.

Was she by any chance modelled after Angelina Jolie? Facially, at least, there are similarities.

This might sound like blasphemy, but the VegaStrike guys have put a huge amount of time and effort into documenting their universe; so much so that there has been murmurings of publishing a book based on it. Especially Jacks (from the VS forum) who is the official VS universe guru. It might be worth...
