Re: A Few Points to Consider from an Outsider

You could keep the linear approach but add in random RP bonuses for winning a battle, invading a planet or discovering an artifact. This, I quite like the idea of, I like it a lot. Me too. It's another think that I like about Stardrive 2. You can discover things in the galaxy map (or have some spec...

Re: UI Evaluation from a lets play series.

Yep... First thing: he klicks the turn button 4 times because he expects something else to happen. Often there's a menu at that place. I mean true, "Turn 1" does not really give a hint at what that button does. There should be enough room for "Next Turn"? The next thing is tech tree... Can we change...

For Industrial Centers, I like this aproach.

For GGG, what about my Infrastructure Based approach from here

Re: New player experience : too much micromanagement !

I like the contested supply approach. Have a look at some Stardrive 2 plays / reviews on youtube or so. It is very similar to MOO2, and I think has some interesting ideas. One is a "empire border concept". You have core space (exclusively your own) and border space (fuel supply, allows other ships)....

Re: A Few Points to Consider from an Outsider

Well, canging the quickstart to easier settings sounds like a good idea to me. I typically would have a look at the settings screen anyway, but who knows what Jon Doe first time user would press. No harm in it probably. Documentation is a recurring discussion probably, across all of software develop...

Re: usful ship hulls

Decoys are the colony or outpost base hull, filled with whatever's usefull in parts (don't remember). It can't move, so it would be what you mean, in a way. But I think it has no external slots, hence no weapons. It's just cheap cannon fodder, basically. The idea is not new, it's just that no one ha...

Re: New starname clustering method, some questions

You're certainly very dedicated to that task :D Personal interest. ;) Maybe I'll get the chance to attend a lecture about it at some point. Anyway, it'll be something a lot more simple I think, even if it's not perfect. I'll try some more things, something like Cjkjvfnby's suggestion, too. But you ...

Re: New starname clustering method, some questions

So, I did some more experiments... I used the find_systems_with_min_jumps_between method from empires.py to get the cluster centers instead of using randomized systems. I also reduced the number of clusters and set the number of individually named systems to zero, just to see if I like the clusters....

Re: Major research/production/population boni revision propo

Or we could tie gas generators into infrastructure. A planet with infrastructure higher than x and with a gas giant in system just gets the gas giant generator benefits. This would reduce the micro, be somewhat believable, and make infrastructure useful. It could also be the sum of the infrastructur...

Re: New starname clustering method, some questions

*after googling hypot because I had no idea what that might be* Why on earth does one need to create another name for a common function which simply uses a numerically more stable way to calculate the same result? Whatever. What's with fo.linear_distance()? I mean sure, I can change it to use...

Re: New starname clustering method, some questions

New patch with your feedback incorporated. Also uses 3 convergence iterations, it's working fine. I am so used to stuff like old_c = (old_c + 1) % 1 for such cases, I simply didn't get what you were doing, Dilvish. ;) I think I need to add some code which either merges clusters which are small and n...

Re: New starname clustering method, some questions

@Cjkjvfnby: Thank you, I'll have a look at that next time. Sounds good. Here's a working solution. It is not ideal, but clustered systems are now mostly adjacent. I don't get every cluster, there is one cluster with 250 systems at the bottom where a system of a different cluster on the path from one...
