I wouldn't mind a very slight semi transparent progress bar either... Since the game is in openGL there should be an easy way to code it in that still looks tasteful... that would help someone remember just how long they've been working on a tech... etc...

Thanks Tyreth... NOW I understand the turn limitation. The whole idea is that an empire with greater research can just tackle more projects at the same time... I could see this system working quite nicely... The only problem I could see is that some REALLY distinct plateaus will arise depending on p...

OT and I apologize, but I'm having trouble finding the .3 design docs... they're not on sourceforge like they use to be... and the wiki is only showing me the undetailed roadmap.... I think I'd be MUCH more useful in this thread if there was a consolidated place to read all that has passed concernin...

I really think that RP generation numbers really need the tech tree... or at least an alpha of the tech tree to make an attempt at balancing how RP generation increases as the game progresses due to population growth, and prior applied technology... Because without that tree we might as well just sp...

One thing to keep into consideration is that efficient and profitable research is not always based off of population numbers. To a certain extent population does help... but the overall prescence of said research community in each empire is more important than the overall numbers of researchers. Mid...

Sorry, just heard 'overfunding' and assumed that was what it meant.

I kind of like that overfunding idea... There should be an increasing cost to RP's over the 'normal' funding level/rate... whatever you want to call the baseline value of funding... This allows an empire with a butt kicking economy to accellerate technology to the highest point affordable while intr...

Check the 2nd Xanni thread on Starbase Delta Obiwan...

If Empire Interactive does not own the publishing rights... I think that getting the funding for S!SG is possible.

Hi all... how can I help out the Audio side of FO?

I have a nice DAW in my apartment consisting of a MA Delta66 Omni IO soundcard, barton 3000+, Roland XP-10 functioning as a midi controller Cubase SX and Reason 2.5... I also play some guitar (definitely beyond powerchords and most of the guitar that craptastic famous bands play, but still no great ...

XVID is completely open source. It is mpeg4 "compliant" not Mpeg4. If and when FO gets to the point where it needs to add video to put the polish on the game such as in high resolution fully rendered 3d and the like... PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE take the time to learn a proper video compression technique....

I really liked the backing part of the pathetic victory track... the strings were just way too strident... maybe bring the levels down, cut some high frequencies....

Maybe some quantization would help in the strings too... they just don't seem to be hitting "just right"... but all in all good work!

Hey everyone, I'm new to freeorion but I think this game has much promise. The whole micro/macro issue is whats going to make or break a game such as this. Not enough micro and the player is out of control or wishing to try something his own way, while too much micro and the player isn't going to wa...

Wouldn't unionized workers actually decrease production and increase cost?

did ya'll ever consider possibly using some sort of mpeg4 codec? I'm no programmer so i don't know the contsraints of popping video into the gui... but XVID is a completely Open Source fully MPEG4 compliant codec. Look it up on sourceforge. Compressing a frame sequence of 128x128 will be a joke for ...
