I definitely vote for smaller stars, or in the very least smaller halos. I like your stars very much and the general idea how they should scale. Size of stars is issue of zoom level/how close the stars are each another. Your shot has ~right size for the stars in that zoom level, but still I want to...

I think it could be something to do with graphic card memory, my p3 900/512 laptop with only 8mb graphcard could barely run 0.1 _with_ memory related glitches - haven't tested with 0.2 yet.

pd: yep, details of battle graphics-engine are to be discussed later, but how it seems now is that we aim for 3d presentation regardless how 2/3d the gameplay turns out. And I agree about the graphical feel to be similar to homeworld - beutiful colorful nebulaes and details in background, shipdesign...

I can see that your suggestion could work as a ring with circle of dots/spots around the star with each of them colored according to empire and in resource mode colored by what is their biggest resource output, with 3 different sizes/dot to tell the amount of population or the amount how of resource...

We cant show too much per-planet data on this as its a map-view mode, and having to show details for each possible 9-10 planet/colony on system would be quite hard- gets very small, ugly and cluttery. Things should be generalised to empire/system level as much as possible.

Having >5 overlays would mean having a separate UI to turn on and off the ones you like and reserving several keys for this purpose. Not neccessarely a bad idea, but I would rather have ~3 well thoughtout map-modes that would have all neccessary data shown, so that you could cycle the modes by press...

That could be too cluttering, we already have plenty of small stuff on starmap with fleets and their details. I think we could just show the systems with more than one empire grey/white, or color they somehow partially according to empirecolors (as the ring around the star in Moo3 which showed) But ...

Static-sized bright center sounds good - a good way to deal with the unclarity of high zoom-outs. With extra layers (those glows and animeted streaks) that change size accordingly to zoom level allow us to do all the detail we want to. Worth a try I see. Fogs are done with separate pictures and zoom...

but it might be a good idea to stop scaling 3 or 4 'zoom steps' before the maximal zoom is reached. I think starlanes ought to get the same treatment. They look a little wierd when they get fat due to zooming. I agree with this. I want to reach the clarity and tranquility we have in these early ske...

0.3 Battle visualisation/combat pop-up

0.3 DD says: Combat pop-up For every combat that occurs (regardless of whether or not it involves the player), a window that explains the casualties and the outcome. The graphics team shall develop a simple, animated display for automated combat; a primarily text popup with some sound effects and a ...

That guy: Thank you very much for being with us so far :) I'm eager to see you back later.

I asked Eisentoer (that guy that designed freeorion.de ) if he would like to work on our new design, but haven't heard of him recently. I'll pm him and ask if he's still interested

Personally I like Satya's splash the best so far. It has the feel of coming from a real telescope, whereas all the rest so far look very rendered to me. ( http://www12.brinkster.com/satyagraha/db/splash01.png ) This one is my favourite as well, I like the color-scheme and it feels being far-away. n...

zip updated, should look better :) Obi: zip I composed has stars of the previous sets + some extra. I used 3DSMax lens-effects to do the stars and finished them in photoshop(playing with layers, alpha channel&hue), but there is indeed problems with opacity as 3DSMax doesnt show the it right, learned ...
