Shiprepai would be apropriate to coast extra. This would make take some of the bigger vs. smaller ship away, since repairing the big one cost and rebuilding smal ones does cost also.
Anyway having adequate maintenence coudl cover up for that fact (at least in minelaying aspects)

I'd kind assumed that it would be more of an abstract thing, i.e. you specify a location for a minefield, its size (area) and its density (affect chances of ships being hit) and you then build it as a single entity (and then maybe have to pay to maintain it). have it so system defences only engage when the system is attacked... For planetary bysed defense I would say this should be true, but for System defense and normal starships I would give the defender the choice to attack the intruder. As for Mines/Satelites/Starbases this is again a seperate issue...

both seems nice. Why not give smal ships an evasion bonus & give big ships the posibillity of carying minesweeping technology. sounds good to me.
just the thing is. were does it place mines. do your own ships have to evade them as well but only see them (which would make them powerfull but with a bad tste to it) and satelites coudl be build, and still be placed at unsettled planets or in space...

but overall .... agreed :)

nebulas are then just multiple starlanes (are a simulated equivalent)
ever system is conected to every otehr system via star lane within a nebula.
hmm... i think i'v heard of such an idea before...
the only difference is the optical effect.

I like the idea of different levels of defence. simply changing these on the planetary list via drop down menue for singel planets or a bunch of them. This way I only have to bother to update the levels of defence (lod) table every now an then with new tech or greater need of security. It shuld stil...
