true

True, or pehaps something as mundane as warpable escape pods. Something so that, even if you lost the battle, you still gained something from it.

Perhaps a later application, such as emergency teleporters or brain scanning / cloning could make the attrition loss even less.

Getting great ships

In command and conquer generals, you could have units that gained experience making them stronger and better. The problem came with the type of unit. For example. I have my little GLA light tank. It goes around and after a few battles, he goes from veteran to elite to special. He gets abilities like...

RRRRNrrGGgnnrngnnnngH!

GGGGGnnnRRRFFFRRGGNNRNGNFFFF!!!! NNnnNNNGGGG.... buNNIES!! I think this idea is a good one. It would be interesting if a future technology radically changes your shields from being inneficient, to actually repelling concentrated fire. One thing I get annoyed at with big battles is the "concentr...

For curiosity's sake

I was listening to a documentary on the CBC (Canada's public radio broadcasting corporation) on a company that creates fake moon rocks and sediments for corporations to test their equipment on. The argument for a need for fake moon material is based on the fact that moon dust gets everywhere. It clo...

Just my 2 cents

I imagine the mockup was a pre-rendered .PNG image, but I must say - I do like the fonts and the star effects on that image :)

An issue to debate

Although the wheel system is set in stone and is not going to change, what should be noted is that this wheel system is for solid / rock based planets. A long time ago the developers mused about an alternate system for gas giants. Due to their nature they would be outside the terraforming wheel. As ...

Interesting idea

Has the idea of the length of time it takes to switch the planet's infrastructure to one specilization (say primary farming, secondary farming - to - primary mining, secondary mining) been discussed? I think it could be interesting if this length of time could also be dependent on the race you chose...

Teleporting tech

Hey... now there's a really interesting idea... Theoretically, when transporter technology has been researched, ships attacking a planet with that technology would have to take extra special care against loosing their shields or some other transporter jamming device, or risk being mass-boarded by a ...

Was it aquitaine who said?

I beleive it was either Aquitaine, Powercrazy or Geoff who said that if there is a function in the game that the player does not understand how to work it, or in what relation that function has with other gameplay values, they will consider that function to be a game bug and get frustrated. Moo3 had...

early game diversification

I think another reason why there used to be so many new genres back in the video game heyday that was the late 80's and early 90's is because it was relatively easy for a single programmer, or a small group of programmers, to create a game on a small budget. For example: Space quest 1. It was state-...

Growth Icon

Do you remember the "easy" setting on moo2? It had a picture of a baby 4 fingered hand reaching up, and a larger 4 fingered hand reaching down (almoth touching, but not quite.. as if the small hand was reaching for the larger one).

Would that be growth?

Selling super-sized ship signatures so somebody sees soup

Reading through wikipedia today on the fleets of various nations, how some fleets are comprised of older refitted vessels of a bigger nation's fleet (IE: Great Britain sells ships to Australia and Canada). I thought - if it could be done, perhaps in diplomacy you can be given the option to 'sell' so...

true

- that was my thought. Perhaps there isn't any footage of the MIR space station, or of Yuri Gagrin's first trip into space, or of Sputnik. Or maybe if there was there was a licencing issue that made it impossible to show or something. I do think it would be funny if they interwinned some part of the...

enterprise was odd

I found Enterprise to be a little odd... Maybe a little 'too American' for my tastes. Not that it's a bad thing, mind you , especially if your target audience is Americans... But I found it odd how the captain kinda reminds me of George W. Bush... Also I notice that most of the entrance revolved aro...

interesting

Hey, if the icons were all 3d - could we not eventually have 3d spinning icons? It would make things interesting to look at, that's for sure :)

nice work to the icon group
