As to the sitrep filters, perhaps we can reach a consensus during testing, where certain sitreps will/can automatically stop reporting? (with option to turn back on) Or perhaps a game start option... Always show (X type) sitrep. Show (X type) sitrep 50 turns. Show (X type) sitrep 200 turns Etc,Etc....

I think the internal compiler errors can be avoided by turning off optimisation in dev-cpp. It's too darned slow anyway so who needs it ;)

As a space nut, I lurv the idea of colonisable moons (like planets in every way except a bit smaller on average). For some races you could imagine the moon being far more useful than the planet (terran moon orbiting a gas giant). But it would probably make the interface more complicated than it need...

Yes, you should be able to compile 0.1 with just the 0.1 source, windowskit, dev-cpp and boost. I did it myself a week or so ago. Er, actually, now that I think about it, I think the windowskit in the 0.1 source was out of date. Try getting the next version up from CVS : http://cvs.sourceforge.net/v...

Still no luck. And there is also an internal compiler error in xDiff.cpp. Looks like mingw needs updating.
I'm also looking at compiling in cygwin, will the stuff in windowskit.zip work or do I have to build the libraries + dlls from scratch?

Did you copy the stuff in windowskit.zip/copy to dev-cpp/ to your dev-cpp directory? I guess you probably did this, but you didn't mention it.

The SitRep is already linked directly to each system (and eventually each tech, etc.). By clicking on keywords in the SitRep, like system names or tech names, you immediately zoom to the system, tech, or whatever, that you clicked. So I think having a system-specific SitRep is pretty pointless. Sur...

I noticed there is a cygwin package for ccache, also.

trying to build latest code

I've had this problem now for the last 2 revisions of windowskit.zip. I'm on winxp with dev-cpp (mingw/gcc 3.2). g++.exe -c chmain.cpp -o ../../objs/chmain.o -I"F:/apps/Dev-Cpp/include/c++" -I"F:/apps/Dev-Cpp/include/c++/mingw32" -I"F:/apps/Dev-Cpp/include/c++/backward"...

I guess you're right that tidal forces wouldn't be a problem at a planet's orbit from a black hole, though.

Yeah, that's why I suggested it be an option. Once there are buildings and so on in the game it wouldn't be so boring to be stuck in your homesystem for a few turns perhaps.

starting technology - 'prewarp'

I think it could be fun to start without the technology for interstellar travel - you'd have to research starlanes / FTL engines. One of the best parts of the game Pax Imperia 2 was the intro movie where they discovered a wormhole near Pluto. Then we could have other options ala MoO2 where you could...

* Blackhole Sun (This world orbits a black hole. -50% pop cap, -75% food production, +2 research, blah blah blah) It would get torn apart by tidal forces in seconds. In fact black holes and neutron stars are really unlikely to have planets, because they are what's left after a (super)nova, which is...
