Which version of boost do you have? If boost 1.40 as is standard in Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid, then you have to have 1.42 or later which is required by FreeOrion. Or upgrade to newer version of distribution.

According this howto you need to tell GG/cmake/FindOGRE.cmake(but this file is automatically called from main cmake) or directly found path in cmake cache or somehow tell cmake what variable ${OGRE_INCLUDE_DIR} is. you did sudo cmake . which uses root environment. But for security reasons, this environment is not powerful as normal user. But recompiling with cmake is faster than with Visual Studio. What do you mean? On Windows, running CMake generates a visual studio solution file which one uses to build the program. If FO client crashed or didn't send message, then server will be waiting. I had similar problem and updating driver helped. But that may not be solution to the problem in this case. It may be related somehow to this bug. I randomly had similar problem but cannot reproduce.

It is strange. On my old computer with GeForce 6600GT(which is worse card) FreeOrion was running pretty well. Try newest driver from NVidia.

Visual Studio Express requires after 30 days period registration which is free. Also Visual Studio 2008 can be downloaded from Microsoft - it is the same page as for VS 2010.
