Born of Blood does the same thing for SotS. Oh, and they announced a 2nd expansion, with the cryptic acronym of AMOC. Now, what 4x space game has ever done 2 expansions?? :D

(trust me folks, it can't be a bad thing!!)

Oh yes, the alpha-centauri expansion. So in the entire genre, it seems there are two. :?

I have just made changes to the list. We got some new games. I'm thinking also about adding a column in the list stating type of a game (RTS or TBS)? Any comments, suggestions?
Regarding Stars! Supernova Genesis, Mare Crisium is said to still exist, check Wikipedia -> Stars!

There is a new TBS game: Lost Empire. Not widely known so far, released in June 2007. Added to the list. There is no demo yet, but developers said they were making one.

PaxImperia is great - I play it everytime a good friend and I met.
The Balancing is not so good - if you have Minefields you can Block a long time...
And to destroy all computer planets you need the best ships and a lot of them :D

I like FreeOrion and hope it will get the good menues of PaxImperia
Primarily the Focus of Ressource of a Planet should have Sliders and not a fixed Click-System.

A Planetary Overview like in Pax would be great and such a Planet-Sight with some Structures of the Buildings - because I can't see what is build on a planet :D

All I can say is:
my Friend and I are watching this Project and hope to switch soon from Pax to FreeOrion :D
like to meet you on Server for a great Weekend in Space :D

Sword of the Stars should be listed as a 2006 game, with a link to: http://www.swordofthestars.com/ . Also, if you want, mention that Born of Blood is already out, 2007 as the 1st expansion. The next expansion has a clever acronym: AMOC and not much is currently known. It has been confirmed, however, the new race for AMOC will be some sort of dragon-bird type thing... here's a pic:

many elements of moo3 where pure weapons grade bull****. why should a game tell me that i cant launch my brand new ship just because i dont have 5 other ship types same with ground combat. i never could figure out the rules behind it or how to make it happen that i got precisely what i needed to make my fleets without having a large suprlus of various fleet components. that and how hidden everything was

Sins of a Solar Empire has now been released, so you can move it to 2008.
The website is now:

Also, for the abandoned Stars! Supernova Genesis, you may want to add a link to the way-back-machine archive:

By chance, I found out about a game for mobile devices, Rise of Antares 1 and 2, that seems to be a straightforward MOO(2) clone, judging from screenshots.

IT looks pretty cool, though I bet it is not fun to play on mobile.

Yesterday I managed to get downloaded the original Master of Orion for DOS. It runs pretty good on dosbox.

And then I had the idea: There is dosbox for the gp2x. And maybe there is dosbox for Symbian Phones, but I did not check that.

MoO runs on my gp2x using dosbox - a good thing while travelling by trailway :-)

Add my current favorite 4X space game, Star Chamber, to the list!

http://starchamber.station.sony.com/

Its been around since 2003 and is like a cross between MOO and Magic the Gathering.

I added a post with more information about it to these forums.

Cheers,

Please update Sword of the Stars with the 2nd expansion - a murder of Crows.

While the four civilized races battle back the voracious Zuul and seek advantage over each other, a ghost from the past returns to the galaxy in the form of the manipulative Morrigi. Already known for their dark crow-shaped attack drones and deadly traps, this race once thought long extinct, returns looking for vengeance.

Using never-before-seen weapons, ships and tactics, the Morrigi fall upon the other five races of the Sword of the Stars universe, who must now adapt to the ancient masters of space or be destroyed.

Time is of the essence as world after world falls to the black winged ships that surge out of the dark like A Murder of Crows.

* A New Sixth race – The Morrigi, who appeared as a series of mysterious random events in Born of Blood (the first Sword of the Stars expansion pack), continues to evolve the ever-expanding Sword of the Stars universe
* New Ship Sections - Over a dozen new ship sections for all races to match against your opponents
* Unique ‘Grav Flock’ Drive System for Morrigi Ships – The more Morrigi ships in a fleet, the faster they can travel, continuing the racial diversity unique to the Sword of the Stars gameplay experience
* 15 new weapons
* 27 new technologies and the new Xeno-Cultural and Drones tech trees
* Sword of the Stars gameplay continues to deepen with Civilian populations, independent worlds, Espionage options, and demands for planetary surrender
* Drone carrying ships in all three size classes
* Construction ships, a variety of orbital stations, spy ships, Police Cutters, and more
* A whole new set of GUI enhancements and additions

You can get the original game and both expansions either from http://www.gamersgate.com via digital download, or from the publisher: http://www.lighthouse-interactive.com/ if you prefer a box. You can also read more about the game either directly from the kerberos: http://www.swordofthestars.com or from the wiki: http://sots.rorschach.net/
